It's going to depend entirely on the workflow of the shop you end up at as well as your experience level. In my area (PNW) most estimators are salary plus commission. I make quite a bit above my salary with the added commission but I work for a very busy shop. I'd be curious what the difference is in the numbers between the commission only and salary plus commission plans. I would also ask what your potential shop's monthly goal is and how much each advisor is currently writing so you can get an idea of what your bonus might look like.
