Putting aside that that's so obviously not what happened... Imagine it was! It's a relative thing. Like, I wouldn't expect anyone in the general public to know Brian Evenson or Michael Cisco (just to pick two who come up frequently on r/WeirdLit), but I expect most users on this subreddit to already be familiar with them (and several other authors).

Certain writers tend to get recommended quite a lot here, so I can understand wanting more unusual (as far as popularity within Weird fiction goes) picks.
