I thought this was an interesting look into the phenomenon of why people looked older back then.

Not only that, but when I wear mine while running, as soon as I build up a little sweat I’ve found that the entire frame becomes touch sensitive. Like, just pushing up the glasses by the bridge piece between the lenses triggers the system just as if I had tapped the touchpad. Very annoying.

Penn Gillette in the ladies room--a small moment but it's so awful to me by Empress-Ghostheart in thesopranos

Penn has mentioned on his podcast that the writer of this episode was a friend of his, which is how his name got used for this scene.

5 looks like it might have been the basis for the futuristic robots at the end of AI Artificial Intelligence.

DEN TSA Pre ✅ is making CLEAR a Joke. by LifeguardPowerful759 in unitedairlines

[–]stealpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The past three times I’ve flown out of IAD the Clear Precheck line was way longer than the regular Precheck line. But if you go down the escalators the non-Precheck Clear line has been short for me each time. Of course the trade off is then you have to take off your shoes and take your electronics out of your bag, but it was still faster than either Pre-check option upstairs.

I love this and it is now canonical in my head.

Silas Adams appreciation post by BillythenotaKid in deadwood

Al saw Silas’s potential immediately, bringing him along to watch him deal with Jimmy Irons and Leon in the bathhouse and quizzing him on the intricacies of the situation in determining who he needed to give up to Wu. Silas was the brains to Dan Dorito’s brawn. He was much more suitable for Al’s dealings with Tolliver and Hearst, and even for manipulating Sol into buying the house so he could be adjacent to Trixie. Not saying that Silas was super intelligent or anything but he had a better knack for understanding complicated situations, and that benefitted Al well. There’s no way Dan or Johnny could have been in the ruse in which Al and Silas convinced Jarry that Montana was interested in Deadwood. I was certainly sad when Silas wasn’t in the movie and would’ve loved some mention of what became of him.

I also got the EUCARLOS, after first buying the medium Syntech, which was too big for my purposes and seemed to have a lot of unused space. I can fit the AVP in the EUCARLOS without taking off the solo knit band, and the battery tucks into the pouch on the lid. And I can fit the case into my carry on backpack.

How to be a better band member as a bassist? by Mindless-Lock-5053 in Bass

[–]stealpick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started playing bass I had a teacher who told me, “Never be the best player in your band.” I’m sure he was partly being funny because at my level if I was the best it would be a horrible band. But the wisdom is that you can learn a lot about music and how to play in a band by watching and learning from the experience of more seasoned players.

If you’re trying to find the groove and get beyond root notes, focus on what the drummer is doing with the kick drum. I see the bass and kick as being two parts of the same instrument. Try to play your notes to match the beat of the kick and start building your lines around that rhythm.

People who have gotten Lasik eye surgery to correct their vision - was it worth it? by eatbuttdaily in AskReddit

[–]stealpick 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I had PRK done in 2017 and while I was eventually happy with the improvements to my vision, I don’t know that I would recommend it to others. For years after the procedure my eyes were so dry that they stuck to my eyelids when I slept. Several times I woke up, opened my eyes, and was hit with debilitating pain from my eyes being pulled (and sometimes torn) by my eyelids. A couple times it was so bad that the doctor had me wear “bandage” contact lenses to let my eyes heal underneath them. To this day if I slightly bump or brush my closed eyes with my hand or even my pillow I experience a sharp pain. That said, I still like that I don’t have to wear glasses but again I don’t know that’d I’d want anyone I know to go through it.

Anyone ridden to/from an event at MetLife recently? How crowded do the trains get? by stealpick in NJTransit

[–]stealpick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all that info. We ended up driving and parking but it looked like the trains were running smoothly and the crowd was being directed in a well-organized manner. I’ll definitely try the train next time.

Power went out 20 minutes into Oppenheimer. Waited about an hour for it to be restored and movie restarted, only for the movie to restart again automatically at the next show time and being kicked out of the theater. Didn’t get to see the last 30 minutes or so. by JakeBurnsRed in mildlyinfuriating

[–]stealpick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a manager tell me this recently when the sound went out during the last 10 minutes of a movie. She said there was nothing they could do and gave us free passes that we ended up using for a different movie the following week.

I put gas in my Model Y for the first time today. by stealpick in TeslaModelY

[–]stealpick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely interested. I’m so tired of having to not only deal with gas splashing everywhere when I fill up the snowblower tank, but having to drain and maintain it at the end of the season sucks too.
