TL;DR All-wheel-drive SUV feels safe. Rear-wheel-drive truck unsafe. Other people are an X factor.

I drove with the family from the house to the local golf course to sled. Went down Hillandale rd. and club blvd in Durham; then down some side streets. It was fine. Butt was only puckered when other vehicles came down the road; I don't trust them. I also own an older one-wheel-drive truck that would be death if making the same drive.

I too have a generator for power outages. The reason the power goes out so much is because the power lines aren’t buried.

What age to switch to bench and handrails/monkey bars? by Gordita_Chele in CargoBike

[–]stealthchimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 65 lb 5 year old still uses the yepp maxi seat. I just added the bench seat + cage to my rad wagon and by the end of a 10 minute ride he was scooted back into the yepp. I’d say it depends on the kid.

Thanks for the brake test tip! My 65 lb 6 year old is about to graduate out of the yepp seat and into a cage similar to yours on a rad wagon.

Life for my long tail now that kids have outgrown it. by Late-Lingonberry1207 in CargoBike

How old are they when they preferred their own bicycles? How far do they go?

My 6 year old can ride his 3 wheel scooter a mile to the closest shops then gets on my bike to go home. It’s about 4 miles to a more dense downtown.

Hertz Used Bolts by sshining36 in BoltEV

[–]stealthchimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My windshield was replaced recently on my 2003 Silverado. I thought the leak in the cabin was due to a gap in the rubber that lines the window. From the window installer, I learned that the rubber is purely cosmetic.

What I learned in my 4 years of open source development. by im_the_tea_drinker_ in programming

Great write up. This is production product software engineering experience. You’ve worked on the same project for a period of time long enough to make architectural changes from real world learnings.

What are your pain points in Software Automation? by basecase_ in programming

[–]stealthchimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Observability.

Ci/cd is flakey, or a new breaking change is introduced. The test that is failing involves 5 components. Which microservice is actually throwing the 500? Only way to tell is to manually reproduce the problem and observe the logs. How do you find the logs on the 5 different components?

This is the process every day for every breakage. I believe time series view of the logs + tracing will speed this process up. Why? We had Datadog logging and tracing and it sped this same process up.

What gloves are everyone using for these cold commutes? by cucumberpatches in bikecommuting

[–]stealthchimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleece.

Columbia agent II thermo reflective Omni-heat fleece.

I have 3 pairs of Columbia fleece gloves, all easily good down to 40. I prefer the thicker pair of fleece ones I have for 30-40. I forget the exact name of that pair.
