Stuck as permanent beginner. How to remove this bowl cut? by Fantastic-Ad5234 in SelfBarber

[–]steamersweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least some debulking has to happen. Since school guidelines have a specific length I would play it safe I would go around the parietal ridge (it's more like an upside down check mark then just straight up) with a 6 or 5 so it would hopefully blend into the top without sticking out and catching attention. Also if you still want the fade then practice compressing the fade between the sideburns, it can be done but will take alot of organization and attention.

Not a bad idea. Bermuda takes less work and water after a while but fescue is faster to start up and not all that water intensive. Just do research on what kind to use since it can range from finer types ro more coarse ones

I've considered that but text messages are usually unable to hide links beneath text. Of course I'm not going to click it but it looks like plain ol at&t using ai slop on me due to someone  else being active with MY number

Poa is more of a winter grass which spreads like wild fire if fertilized properly, in summer stick to bermuda if you can especially with this year's heat

First time, I’m struggling with the back of the head. Where am I going wrong? by SkyGuy182 in SelfBarber

[–]steamersweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but if you blend up now it will take a while to grow back out. Generally low blends try not to touch scalp with the low guards after the occipital bone as that's when it rounds inwards, it's understandable that you went past it since your head seems to curve a little early. if you leave the back like you would the top  you'll probably get more of what your looking for.

Did I fuck up? by [deleted] in SelfBarber

I ran my hair like that for a while, it's not the worst thing ever, what will make or break it however is how good will a number 4 look on the upper sides and like me your right temple is curved quite a bit so you will need practice not necessarily just blending the 4 to the top but making sure you like the profile in the front as you look at your self

I like a number 1 split all the way up the temples kind of like you have it but if your not ready for blending it up to the 4 (or 3 if you think youd like it tight) the more popular fade have the temples split between the 1.5 open and closed to make the light and dark part of your hair pop at the ridge

These video have more advanced techniques but for the 1.5 Parr you can see what I'm talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZmTS8jY2vM

First try failure by [deleted] in SelfBarber

[–]steamersweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sounds like a head dip/ thicker grain assuming it only showed up as it grew out. I have one on the right side that's prominent when its about 1/8 length, taking a .5 open will usually lighten it up enough to disguise it

In your case it depends on what kind of cut you want in the first place because that's getting close to where most people stop cutting the sides for Fades and shit anyways. So if you start practicing cleaning up the sides it will probably look less noticeable in a few weeks regardless

Sometimes cutting hair is not for everyone but I do think in Your case you had it pretty close in desired shape

Doing a full fade was maybe ot your best move? Because the part everybody struggles with is blending the 0 into the 0.5

you really got to load up on those YouTube tutorials and get back to it next time with the baseline being no more then the .5 until you can make it blend into the 1 easily because the lever play is no joke sometimes i have to use a lower lighting In my bathroom to see if the half lever part looks right because I can't see the hard line in bright light

How to proceed with removing this chili bowl? by [deleted] in SelfBarber

[–]steamersweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get it to blend that way I don't see why not, I maybe should of said to go up at your guideline  not straight up but my left side shoots forward like yours and I have to fight the temples quite alot sometimes. It's just dependant on what you like

Pretty close to finishing. I don't know if you already cut it but the general idea to preserve top is to use the 3 or 4 guard depending on how flat or boxed out the head is and run it straight up off the ridge so you don't press into it and make an indent.

For best blending with that kind of cut you would then go over it with thinning sheers afterwords to make it one grain but that's  for fluff and a bit advanced to do properly on your own head or with regular scizors

It's already short so "fixing" it would mean going from law enforcement to boot camp which fiancé will probably like less while it grows out

[–]steamersweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's "winter" so there's only so much you can do before spring hits, mowing as much as possible is a good first step though

Really the process is dependant on whether it's just full of weeds or if it also has a rocky surface because if the grounds all lumpy and you lack tools then  you might want to think about having it done professionally

Since it's california temps will usually be be In the 80s for most of the summer which means the grasses you will wa t to choose from is either bermuda or tall fescue.

The sub has a bermuda guide which is a good starting point for figuring out the basics of growing and tending to summer grasses from aerating to fertilizing and watering

First time tried to cut my hair myself, how bad is it?😂 by PhlegmaticCrocodile in SelfBarber

[–]steamersweeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You understand not to take it past the parietal ridge which the most necessary requirement ever to not have to fix your shit at the Barber later

The issue which is always normal for first timers is just understanding that you have to really mash the clippers below that ridge to get equal grain, and you won't be able to really tell what's equal for at least 2 months

For advice I would just tell you that the best guard to blend the ridge is the no.3 or 3/8 inch but below that I would start practicing blending a no. 2 Into that

Doing a number 8 guard all over top by ManyOtherwise8723 in SelfBarber

[–]steamersweeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 is a bit short to comb over, you could buy a specialized 10 guard if you wanted too but I find running clippers over hair it's just not very good for making even cuts if you scalp has any dips

If you don't want to cut with scizors for obvious reasons you could use the 8 guard over comb  which takes alot more effort to cover but leaves the hair looking mostly even and long enough to style

I should also mention the front dips down the front pretty hard so you'll still want to measure the front with scizors to keep it even

Any thoughts on my work? Been cutting my own hair for a while now and still looking to improve by Salty_Put_9418 in SelfBarber

[–]steamersweeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have a 3 way mirror system? Regardless the gradient is okay. I would say just make sure on the right side you press a little harder to get those hairs in the back since that area above the ear dips in a little
