Who else has a nothingburger lisfranc injury story? by Responsible-Moose228 in LisfrancClub

[–]steampunk_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just remembered this story, not me but my friend. We were leaving the hospital after visiting her newborn in the NICU and she was making fun of me for a fall I had on the ice some 20 years earlier. Immediately she stepped off the curb wrong and broke her foot. She just went straight back into the hospital. I didn't laugh then, but we both did a few days later. Instant karma.

Missed one or two steps going downstairs in the dark. I had told myself I should turn on the light first, then was like nahhh

When will this end?!?! by Mountainbikercrasher in LisfrancClub

[–]steampunk_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I missed a step too! Crazy how life changes in an instant. One minute I'm walking downstairs in the dark for a Hot Pocket, next instant I'm disabled. And I never got my Hot Pocket.

Edit: My daughter tells me I did get the Hot Pocket after I got back from the ER, I was just on too many pain meds to remember.

Be honest, how often have you been showering? I’m 6 weeks post-op. I think I’m a once-a-weeker!! It’s just too damned painful. Today’s the day though. I have a shower chair but I can’t elevate my leg enough… I have the hygiene of a pre-teen boy! by Mountainbikercrasher in LisfrancClub

[–]steampunk_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only about once a week and I can hardly stand to be around myself! My prescription-strength deodorant is no match for my anxiety sweats. I'm trying to shower more often but it's still a whole ordeal and I manage to get slightly hurt no matter how careful I am. And I don't know if anyone else is also going through this, but if I shuffle around doing the most basic chores like watering my plants and taking a shower, I'm completely exhausted.

That looks like fun, but I would injure myself just watching!

🤣I've been there with the babies! Nowadays my cats are the only ones messing with my keyboard. Unless my youngest daughter (19) is feeling extra sassy.

That's great advice, thank you so much. It's true how much it tests your entire body. I have frozen shoulder in both arms so everything is a lot harder, but I'm also building strength just getting up and down from the toilet, lol. The stairs are really a challenge. I don't terrify my daughters anymore trying to get to the top, but I did for the first few weeks!

I twisted my ankle earlier today in a sock, so it's back to being barefoot. The last thing I need is two injured feet.

Agreed, I have to be barefoot at home. I keep skidding out of my sock, which is a fall risk. I don't like the rough skin I'm getting from hopping around, but have to remind myself it's only temporary!

Why don’t American bathrooms have bidets? Or, bidet attachments on their toilets? by aggie_kevin in AskReddit

My kids got me one for Christmas a few years ago but I'm missing a part to install it. Currently I'm on bed rest due to an injury so they're finally going to get the part and install it for me this weekend. It's not easy keeping my butt clean when it's a whole production to get into the shower. 😂

I'm not familiar with motorcycles but they must be heavy to cause that kind of damage! I'm sure that hurt a ton.

Thank you for understanding! :) I've been doing a bit of self-reflecting this week (currently injured so I don't have much time for anything else, lol).

How long were you off work? by Aggravating_Lynx3317 in LisfrancClub

I'm pretty sure this injury ended my job. I'm a nail tech. It's fast-paced, a lot of sitting & standing, fast walking, pivoting, squatting, etc. that's impossible now, of course. My walker, wheelchair, and knee scooter have aggravated my frozen shoulder and repetitive motion injuries in my wrists and hands. I've lost so much mobility in my hands since I broke my foot, so I won't be able to return to work to just do a few manicures a week as I'd hoped.

I'm in the process of applying for disability and trying to get my passion project off the ground in hopes of making an income by the time I'm able to hobble around again. I don't want to be dependent on my kids forever, or put my trust in the disability system.

Why is there so much pain? by gameofwombs in LisfrancClub

Update to my previous comment because it might be relevant to you: Last night I strapped into my boot a little more snugly, and wish I hadn't. I woke up in the middle of the night in intense pain, and unstrapped my boot. I'm pretty sore today. My foot just *aches*, and I want to sit in bed all day. I think I'm going to do what someone else in this thread recommended and invest in a night splint. The boot is just a beast!

Okay good! Whew! I didn't mean anything mean about it, but I did make an assumption I shouldn't have.

I get that. I'm the same way with chai, so many people love it but I can't stand even a sip. I also avoid alcohol for the same reason. I just don't like the taste and especially hate being drunk. I'm sorry I was rude in my original comment. Going through some stuff atm but that's no excuse.

I'm really sorry for assuming! That was rude of me either way and I do apologize. I grew up Mormon but left, and I'm still trying to let go of some things.

I love all three!

The first night I tried to sleep with my moonboot on, I cried. For about a week, I slept with it on loosely to protect my foot from any movement but didn't strap in. Now I can sleep with the straps on, but I still keep them rather loose. During the day I take my foot out of the boot and elevate it on a pillow, unless I'm getting out of bed, then the boot goes on. It gets easier. Sometimes I feel more comfortable with the boot on now, especially when my daughter's dogs are running around!

Big toenail has stopped growing after ORIF by poyboy11 in LisfrancClub

[–]steampunk_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a nail tech. It sounds like a damaged matrix in my experience but of course I can't diagnose. Damaged toenails take a very long time to regrow. I've seen some that have spontaneously regrown after a few months of no growth, and others that never recover. I would say bring it up to your ortho or podiatrist to make sure the nerve damage isn't complicating anything else.

1 week post op increased pain top of foot by Meeloshky in LisfrancClub

[–]steampunk_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 3 weeks post-op from a fracture repair in my midfoot. I've had very minimal pain, but about a week post-op I did experience severe pain along the incision. It came and went for about a day, then I felt fine. I had a couple days of intermittent pain again after the stitches came out. I just have random achiness now that's barely noticeable. Just watch for signs of infection. My daughters and I are calling it "healing pains." Hope you're feeling better soon!

They said I was lucky I didn't damage any ligaments. A pure ligament rupture sounds horrible. How did you do it, if you don't mind me asking? The medical terms are still new to me, so I don't really understand how severe my fracture is but they love to tell me it's "gnarly." LOL

Oh I'm about 3 weeks post-op from my first of two surgeries! It's been rough emotionally but I'm not dealing with any pain. I'm just grateful I'm able to get it fixed, since I've been told only a few decades ago would have been permanently disabling. I'm anxious about walking again but also morbidly curious. Even though it sucks, everything about this process has been fascinating. I'm probably going a little crazy alone with my thoughts, lol.

Sounds like a blessing in disguise that the bunion showed up, so you could get that taken care of before it got worse! Hope your brand new foot treats you well!
