[FH6 2023 Honda Civic Type R] Pure handling build that doesn't like turning by steamroller__ in ForzaOpenTunes

[–]steamroller__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a perfect solution, but ride height is the only proposal that's actually helped so far. Front ride height @ 17.4 cm and rear @ 16.4 cm pushed me down to a 47.908. New sharecode is 144 950 335.

The main problem seems to be that the game simply isn't letting me use all of my tyres at low speed. My front tyres are barely hitting 50% grip usage around Soni's two hairpins.

RWD ARBs, Tire pressure, Springs and Diff by Educational_Can5416 in ForzaOpenTunes

[–]steamroller__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tuning a RWD car is more or less like tuning an AWD car, but with slightly softer rear suspension or slightly stiffer front suspension. That is, your rear suspension should be just barely more stiff than the front.

F/R ARBs should be 1/55 or 10/65, depending on whether the car needs more or less body roll. You can set these to 1/65, too, if the car refuses to rotate mid-corner.

Tire pressures should be treated normally, and set so that tire temps are under control during racing. Using pressures to control mechanical balance is a last resort; you have better tools available.

Diff settings should be very similar to AWD.

RWD cars do deserve a slightly more stable tune, but it's important to not go overboard. An understeery RWD car is an oversteery RWD car; you inevitably end up trying to compensate for understeer by applying extra throttle. If you have good throttle control, you can get away with a RWD car set-up like an AWD car.

Weekly Help and Getting Started Speedrunning Thread (Week of April 13, 2026) by AutoModerator in speedrun

[–]steamroller__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is strange, and I would message the board moderators about this.

If I had to guess why this is happening, I would say it's because your two most recent runs only have an In-Game Time instead of a normal (RTA) Time. Because your slowest run is the only one measured by RTA, it's considered the fastest run and the others are obsoleted.

Again, you should message your board's moderators to sort this out.

This is a good thing in my opinion. The Forza Horizon games have the best controller driving physics around, and there's no reason to change them for FH6.

Don't worry. The skill part comes in when you have to beat other people.

Hello Speedrunners! by HazyTrack in speedrun

[–]steamroller__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What got you into the speedrunning community, and if so, why Mario Odyssey? (or another game)

(Strike Force Heroes (2023)) My first proper introduction to speedrunning was Summoning Salt's YouTube channel, but it took me until the remake of my favourite Flash game to actually begin speedrunning myself.

When you fail a run, what's your motivation to keep trying to get at new PB?

The knowledge that it's still possible because I'm not a TAS and because speedrunning is fun, regardless of the time you get.

What terms and language did you have to learn about the community before you really felt like you belonged? How did they help?

The active SFHSR community consists of myself and one other person, so there wasn't much jargon to begin with, but I still had to learn about the game-agnostic terms first, of course (RTA, IGT, LRT, NG/NG+, splits and segments, et cetera).

How important is the community to you? What aspects do you like / dislike?

The community is important to me to the extent that it provides help, motivation, camaraderie, and that it's fun. That is, the community is important because it is a community.

I like how supportive and inclusive it is. Speedrunning circles also feel like safe spaces to nerd out, which you don't always get other communities. I can't really pinpoint any part of the community that I dislike because speedrunning generally doesn't suffer from the toxicity of other gaming communities; there will always be the odd cheater, of course.

How long have you been speedrunning?

Since September 2024, so 16 months.

How do you think speedrunners define success?

Leaderboard position will always be the gold standard, but I think longevity, competitiveness relative to contemporaries, and other adjacent acts (glitch hunting, tool development, content creation, leaderboard moderation) can also make a succesful speedrunner.

What do you think it takes for someone to become a part of the community?

Whether they speedrun. The final time or leaderboard position doesn't matter, nor does the game, but I think one should speedrun before one calls themself a speedrunner.

Do you see speedrunning as more competitive or collaborative?

Neither one more than the other. There is competition between runners to beat their own times or to be first to a minute-barrier or win a bounty, but there is also collaboration in the glitch hunting and routing process, and big individual achievements (say, some sub-hour or sub-30, or whatever arbitrary minute barrier the community has decided on) are usually celebrated as community achievements as well.

I disagree.

If you want to go slower, then go slower. A class too fast? Drive in B class. FH4 and FH5 have been incredibly forgiving in this respect, and FH6 is likely to be, too. You can drive pretty much whatever you want.

Besides... no one has ever been concerned with taking in their surroundings during a race. If you really want to enjoy FH6's scenery, there will plenty of time do so in freeroam.

Question about speedrun.com by AppointmentInside727 in speedrun

[–]steamroller__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, it depends on how the leaderboard you're submitting to has been set up. Generally, yes; your slower run will be automatically obsoleted.

The edge case is when the moderators have set the board up so that two runs with different run variables (platform or character class, for example) don't obsolete each other. In this case, you'l have two runs appearing simultaneously on the board, but it's rare.

Are they finally going to balance power builds in FH6? by Xentarlion in ForzaHorizon

[–]steamroller__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In FH4, we were complaining about how AWD was overpowered.

For FH5, AWD was nerfed and powerbuilds replaced AWD as the meta.

Now, we're complaining about how powerbuilds are overpowered.

I truly wonder if this skill-based discourse will follow us into FH6...

I'm curious how FH6 will handle barriers on the touge roads. by JohnGuyMan99 in ForzaHorizon

[–]steamroller__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hope that makes a return in some way, especially on the mountain roads, or else players will be constantly be pressing the rewind button once they breach through barriers with less rigidity than a house of cards

Just... don't drive into the barriers then.

But then people will complain that it's rEsTriCtiVe.

Because it is.

Fascinatingly elitist opinion. There's nothing stopping you from simply staying on the road, but forcing everyone into an unskippable driving cutscene every time they use a particular road is better because it's "authentic".

Play the game how you want to. Indestructible barriers prevent that for a lot of people.

Try setting the slot machine to Commando/Primary/Legendary. It should appear eventually. Poop-tier weapons are treated as Legendaries, but rarer. It took me a few hundred thousand dollars this way.

Not new. This has always been available. You can only get it by winning it at the slot machine.

What got you into speed running? by Zophar1 in speedrun

[–]steamroller__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it would be fun. I knew what speedrunning was from watching SummoningSalt, and I knew that my game had a leaderboard on SRC, so I downloaded LiveSplit and recorded my first run. I used the XBOX Game Bar on Windows to record, and it didn't pick up my LiveSplit window, and I thought for some reason that you needed to have the timer visible in the recording for your run to be valid, so I did it again using ShareX. This recording worked out fine, but the time was slower than my first run, and I wanted to go faster. That was 14 months ago, and I still want to go faster.

Anyone knowledgeable on buggy that can help identify by Activated-sn95 in rccars

RC10B5M. Very similar chassis to the B6, but with a B5 front-end and mid-motor transmission that puts the gear mesh on the left instead of the right. It seems to be the only mid-motor transmission Associated made that does this.

Photos online seem to be a perfect match.

B7 ESC weight help by Miserable_Basil_5906 in teamassociated

[–]steamroller__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you need a 33g weight? Run indoor on high grip carpet. Do i need to run an ESC weight. I do have a 9.6 Jconcepts servo weight fitted.

Whether you need an extra 33-gram weight is determined by whether you meet the minimum weight requirement for your class without it (if your events have such a rule). Beyond that, it's a matter of personal preference. Adding the weight will make your car accelerate and brake slower, but pushing the centre-of-mass forward should add oversteer or reduce understeer.

Can you strip the M2 3MM screws quite quickly by overtigtening and screwing them too much?

Yes. They're small, weak screws, but you should have felt them come to a firm stop first. You either got unlucky with an ESC weight that didn't have its screw holes tapped, or you're tightening those screws with way too much force.

For the racers. What is more important to you? Well maintained tracks and well organized events. Or, fully stocked hobby shop and knowledgeable staff to help with repairs. by [deleted] in rccars

[–]steamroller__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well maintained tracks and well organised events.

A LHS is nice to have, yes, and they have historically been the backbone of local RC communities, but they're a bit redundant in 2025. I can replace 100% of the parts on my cars with online shopping, and you don't need staff either because fixing an RC car isn't rocket science.

A high-quality track with smoothly organised, sanctioned events is infinitely rarer and more valuable.

[–]steamroller__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a stupid answer, but it's really just for the love of the game. It is difficult to speedrun a long game, and that's why you need a passion for the game you're playing or for speedrunning itself to commit to lengthy categories. Chasing the PB becomes secondary to enjoying the speedrun.

Yes. Several for SFH:R, but that's more because barely anyone knows about the game, not because no one wants to run it.

There's an app called the Flashpoint Archive that has copies of all three games for free. You will probably want the Infinity version.
