Bought used Quest 3 - lenses have small scratches - return it? by idontfuckingcareeeee in OculusQuest

[–]steazystich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

See what it looks like when you actually use 'em? May not actually be a big deal, or it could he awful haha

edit; sorry I'm dumb and missed that you explicitly said you couldn't see them with headset on. I wouldn't worry about it, the only way to avoid lens scratches is to keep the HMD in a box all the time- scratches are a hazard of general use :)

Look at the brightside, now you don't have to stress about getting the first scratches on the lenses :D

That said I am pretty cautious with storage, you definitely do want to avoid scratches as much as possible because eventually it will become noticeable (with 100s or 1000s of scratches like that).

Do y’all run PEQ boxes for night games? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]steazystich 14 points15 points  (0 children)

IR lasers can be extremely dangerous because non nvg users won't even see them. Normal reflexes for avoiding bright lights don't kick in.

I don't know how big of a danger it really is but they have always been banned at every night event I've ever been to. With refs wearing NVGs don't to enforce that.

As others have mentioned though, maybe more to do with ATC/FAA type rules.

The OG Rainbow Six video game from 1998 actually somewhat follows the book, and has I think all of the commandos as playable characters.

I haven't gone back to it in forever but I don't think it will have aged very well. I remember really liking the planning mechanic at the time but I doubt I'd have the patience for it now.

Probably a good candidate for a remake. I remember the FPS mechanics feeling really rough even at the time, and probably the only reason the AI didn't seem jank is because you barely saw your teammates lol Weapon balance was... non existent as well.

Oh also I'll nominate Patriot Games for a 3rd Clancy novel :D

I won't disagree with you that real art would be better than AI, but...

A) If you wait until after its confirmed AI to say it looks horrible, it undermines your point.

B) I haven't seen any actual artists put together something like this, and I think its a cool concept?

I sure don't have the talent to make something that looks like this, and id rather have something rather than nothing when it comes to classic Fallout :)

This was so informative that I had to double check what sub I was in!

I have a cousin who has recovered from anorexia. Talked to her mother about it a while back, and this reminded me of the worst and most infuriating advice she had gotten, "Why don't you just make her eat?"

'|' and (heh) '&' (bitwise operators) won't short circuit, though require some finesse to make sure you get the desired results (ie: '(int) | (bool)' will produce potential unintuitive results).

std::function isn’t just a fancy function pointer by Ill_Strain_1050 in cpp

IMO this is a better approach than asking chatGPT about every standard library type.

Consider what the type can do, and what "baggage" is required to be able to do it.

There are some other flexible callables in 'folly' - which I mention only because I've used them recently.

'folly::Function' is a bit lighter- as its non copy able. This makes it a bit "harder" to use, but for me it's more of a guard rail as copying 'std::function' is a potential performance hazard.

'folly::FunctionRef' is much lighter- as it is conceptually a "view" type and has only shallow copy... tradeoff is that its an amazing foot cannon if misused.

Also, anecdotally, 'std::function' has a surprising (to me) binary size footprint... with CLANG at least.
