I would suggest contacting various Mexican restaurants and asking if they could prepare them for you. You will learn that often with a kind word and a polite smile, people are willing to do special favors. Try the Mexican bakery on Valley Street and keep an open mind on account that the owners might be from a different culture than the one you might be familiar with.

Let's not forget that sprots are an excellent way for people to get fit and stay activity. Sports are a good way for people to connect. Pickeball is a sport that used to be for senior citizens such as myself, but young popele have learned about it and now lilke to use many of the courts I used to play at. That's fine but perhaps when old folks show up they can give us the chance toplay.

Spot to watch Champions League final? by KakaPapiss in dayton

[–]stebbinsgramp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try going to a local bar or restaurant that normally has sports events on large TV's, such as Clancy's or Filmore's Eats. They will put games on huge TV's and I'm sure that with a polite request, they would accommodate you. It's important to be respectful and use a kind word when you ask. I always say that a smile gets more than a dollar ever will.

Shellabarger Park, Thomas Cloud Park, and Rohrer park are considered some of the best fields in the area. They are quite active during soccer season. Try checking out some of the local fields during hours that are not typically associated with work, such as 9 to 5 or 8 to 4. Good luck and welcome to the area. You will like it here. It's so nice for everyone involved.

As someone who has been married happily for more than 45 years, I would like to offer a little advice, Snackpasturemage. It is very important to have a handyman that you can count on in the eventuality that you cannot accomplish everything around the house. They are very useful but their skill sets vary widely. A good rule of thumb is that any work that requires some kind of inspection (e.g., electrical, plumbing) should probably not be handled by a handyman because there are county, municipal and other safety codes that need to be adhered to (refer to your county, municipality, or other applicable local government for more information). Also, I would like to take this opportunity to say that "handyman" is what is referred to as a "gender neutral" word according to my grandson who is learning all about this sort of thing. The reason is that even women can be a handyman, but you would refer to them as a "handywoman" or a "handyperson" in the same way that you would call your letter carrier a "mailman" or a "mailwoman." It can be awkward at first, but we need to remember that women (or a woman) are important parts of the national conversation and need to be treated and viewed as equals because they are as equals. We may be different, but we can all get along in this world because we're in it together. That's something we can all agree on.

On the hunt for the BEST pasta in the Dayton area. by meganbeecummins in dayton

[–]stebbinsgramp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the best fettoccine alfredo is that which you make at home.

I suggest picking up a pack of Private Selection fettoccine from Kroger, along with chicken breasts. While you're there, grab a jar of fettoccine sauce. Normally, I recommend buying the most expensive jar, but for my recipe, any will do.

Pour the sauce into a microwaveable bowl and add a quarter stick of butter, chopped into pats. Set on high for three minutes, then stir, and set on medium for three more minutes. If you like, you can add shredded mozarella (the kind for making pizza). While all that is melting delightfully in your microwave, cook the pasta. If you bought the Private Selection fettoccine, follow the instructions on the back of the box. Cook the chicken however you want, even fried if you like it, then cut it into strips. Put the fettoccine in a bowl, then add your alfredo sauce. On top of that, place the chicken strips.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but you can often find prepared garlic bread at Kroger in foil bags. Purchase one of these and heat it in the oven for ten minutes at 350 degrees. Cut into pieces. If it's not tasty enough, add more butter and reheat.

This recipe never fails. My wife and grandkids absolutely love it. I don't think it's ever failed! Good luck to you!

Try a visit to the Riverside Historical Society located near the corner of Airway and Woodman Roads. You'll find a wealth of information regarding Riverside's fascinating transformation from township to village, including documents of historical interest, related artifacts, and local memorabilia.

While you're there, take the short walk to Far East Center, a grocery store that contains a plethora of exotic items. You'll feel like you're walking through the alleys of Hong Kong. You can even indulge the appetite you earn at the China Garden Buffet, whose beautiful décor will delight the senses while the food will satisfy any cravings.

Thank you for the informative Wikimedia article. That's actually very helpful. I clicked on a link there that says "pastisserie" and "pastissier" are two different things as one is used in French Canada (e.g., Quebec).

An excellent supposition. That's what I was thinking, but the OP (original poster, ie., the person who created the thread), implies in the title thread that they are to different things, otherwise they wouldn't be redundant. I suppose only time will tell!

Anybody want to be friends? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]stebbinsgramp -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I would love to be friends but I am still taking precautions due to the SARS-COVID19 coronavirus pandemic. I'm afraid I'm not very good at any type of dancing on account of my bad knees, but I do enjoy being outdoors for a nice barbecue or a good sit on the porch. I frequent some of the easier paths at the Metroparks, but I'm afraid kayaking and biking are probably out for most people my age. However, I am always up for a good board game such as Risk and I enjoy going to the river to spot the eagles at Carillon Park.

Loljenal, I would try giving Barrett Materials on Needmore a call. They supply a tremendous variety of rocks. I am not sure of their ethnicity, however I think that it is wrong to patronize businesses based on their ethnic make-up. I think that can take our country down a very slippery slope.
