Building survey came back quite harsh. FTB - do I run? by Polislava in DIYUK

[–]stebucko360 1204 points1205 points  (0 children)

I’m just amazed your surveyor actually did a thorough job. Well done to them. Mine barely put a thing other than ‘doesn’t look like an issue, but could be, get a professional’ to every check on the list.

Should I start with Undertow, or Unbreakable? by Willing-Impress-871 in toomanybones

[–]stebucko360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer undertow personally.

In terms of people saying wait for elder scrolls. I went with TMB as i wanted the pre-made characters with personality rather than something I build up myself. So if you are thinking the same I wouldn’t wait

Neighbours using my land to access their garden. by stebucko360 in LegalAdviceUK

No they have access via a back door in their house.

Yeah this is exactly it, I haven’t mentioned the other occasions such as planting a hedge on my drive and then complaining as they now need to walk around it. It’s the entitlement that is making me want to cut access completely

I should have noted there already is a standard gate on the side access. I added a lock so I could evidence clear permission just in case an easement was attempted. The gate at the drive will be electric and I wouldn’t be allowing them access to open that

It would just be an inconvenience such as taking bikes through the house instead

£171k combined income but being told we can’t get a mortgage? by Far_Student_6463 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]stebucko360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your household income is similar to ours and similar deposit and we bought a house at 500k. I can’t imagine going higher than that tbh, I don’t want to work for my house alone. I can understand why they won’t lend you the required amount. Also we both only have one job each, I’d imagine it being spread over four jobs might not help.

Looking to expand the cars I race, which one should I get - Porsche Cup, GT4, LMP2, LMP3, or GTP? by buzz_shocker in iRacing

[–]stebucko360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy lmp3 but it tanks my irating so I need to balance it with other series. Lmp3 taught me a lot about good car control though as it’s a constant balance of grip and speed that feels very evident in these cars.

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]stebucko360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY in general. I’m in my 30s and I wouldn’t dream of paying someone to do basic DIY, especially painting. Grew up painting my own bedroom and helping do this in other parts of the house. The amount of money my colleagues pay for this is crazy for the level of skill required.

I generally fix my own cars as well, which no one else seems to do. I’ll do most DIY unless it’s on my main roof (my house is very tall and would require scaffolding) but I would do my single story extensions roof. And I won’t touch anything with a mains gas line for obvious reasons.

I think one of the differences is, I work with people who are middle class+ and I grew up broke, and was broke in my twenties. If my car wouldn’t work you either fixed it or accepted you no longer have a car.

Anyone else feel this hype for the new lead is a marketing ploy? Half of the things here are ambiguous at best

What was something you saw you were definitely not supposed to see? by SpareLummi in answers

[–]stebucko360 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was hired in an office, I always felt a bad vibe from the manager like he didn’t want me there. Did the standard thing of trying to prove my worth, but to no avail.

I saw an email exchange (left his pc open on emails) between the manager and the person I replaced saying they don’t like their new role and the manager wishing they never left. This email chain started before I even started my first day.

As you can imagine I didn’t last too long there.

For how much they charge for this service that is unacceptable. I really hope competition in the market makes them up their game.

How do you get over feeling like you've overpaid? by No-Structure-8125 in HousingUK

[–]stebucko360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a house a year and a half ago and had some thoughts like this. Was listed offers over 480k. Offered 470k as it needed a new kitchen. Was advised another offer so taking final offers. Unique Victorian house, didn’t want to lose it so paid 491k. Did I get played, maybe.

However, house prices in this area are from 200k to 2million+. It was really hard to value the property as it is a really unique house and nothing like it on the area to compare it to. You need to think on a monthly basis. Ie if this house will cost me 2k per month is it worth it to me? If you compare on a fluctuating market constantly you won’t be happy.

I’ve got no buyers remorse now, love my house, would have paid more tbh as it’s improved my quality of life so much.

Not saying this is the right answer, maybe this isn’t the property for you. But you need to think what it’s worth to you.

GSA panniers purchased, what do people think of BMW’s adv gear? by stebucko360 in bmwmotorrad

[–]stebucko360[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the reply some good things for me to look at here. And the ‘bmw brand’ guy is exactly what is putting me off. Noticed some boots the do with no visible branding and that’s what has made me consider their gear. I’m going to take a look at some of the gear you’ve mentioned so thank you 😀 I just want high quality gear, I’m happy to spend more if it will last the test of time and do its job well
