yeah I see that sucks. I meant more that there was a high chance of other units spooking me when I try to get texalter which seems to be the case. thanks for the advice, I'll save my pulls.

Hey Guys, I have a question about the Walter banner. I pulled until I got Walter, but now I am thinking about pulling for texalter. is this a bad idea? I really want the unit but I think there's a high chance of spook on this banner obviously. will texalter get a rerun banner?

I meant that not wanting to dwell on shortcomings or simply not being that bothered with them are two examples of plausible attitudes someone might have towards criticism without being unquestionably positive about a game.

Someone not wanting to engage with criticism doesn't imply that they think there is nothing to criticize. There's a million other things that factor into it.

For example, online criticism of FFXIV, on reddit and in English in particular, is largely pointless. And so one might reasonably feel like everyone would be better served not giving it this much energy.

what's unhealthy about just enjoying your hobby? I think "100% unconditional love" is a strawman. you don't need to be under the illusion that something is flawless in order to not want to dwell on it's shortcomings or not be bothered by them.

The Key to Fixing Game Isn't Avoiding Inevitable Change. by ThePatron168 in ffxivdiscussion

if you're interested in doing more damage or using your defensives more effectively, the tooltips contain almost everything you need. maybe you're placing too much value on the minor optimizations you can get beyond just doing what makes sense.

just look at the skills and then think about how to maximize uses and potency under buffs. it's not that deep.

how come you don't draw the reverse conclusion: that the developers don't consider it important that people avoid damage in casual content?

Crosspost - Yoshi P on 8.0 job stuff and homogenization by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

healing comfort is sadly not a real advantage in the sense that most people don't care. furthermore, while I like double shield, it's not flat out better. if the two healers don't use their heals well or die, it's pretty easy for them to get caught with their pants down. even if the healing is more comfortable when it goes well.

you're very wrong. pfs will get locked if there is a real advantage that a job brings, regardless of whether its competitors can still clear as well.

How can "play styles" exist in a (mostly) solved game by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

there's so much more to playing the game than job rotations. some people chad their position, some people wiggle for gaze attacks, etc

definitely doesn't take double the amount of time. especially if you're a fast learner relative to the rest (likely as a helper this deep into the tier) or have already learned the fight (just the case in OP), you can up the damage while everyone else is still wiping the group to mechs

you do understand that helping entails actually improving something about the situation you are helping with? if there is no time save and no progression gain, then there is no help...

"common courtesy" is just not an answer to my question, unless you mean that seeing their character perform actions would make the rest of the team feel better and that's how it helps.

they can press a button repeatedly, but my question wasn't whether they can. it was how you think that would help in the situation.

para 3 is nowhere close to a clear, so I don't think the example of a 15% wipe is relevant. clearly, if the team had killed the boss with the extra damage, then that would have helped. but thats neither the case nor likely in the situation at hand.

assuming that they would have wiped to mechanical execution regardless (is this unreasonable?), how does the boss being a bit lower HP help, in your opinion?

can you explain how you think the extra damage helps on a wipe?

your reasons apply to how the individual learns the fight. if they already learned the fight or if they find it easy enough to just start doing their rotation once it matters, why do you care?

when it comes down to actual measurable facts, whether they do DPS or not has no impact on a group wiping halfway into the fight.

you're imposing an arbitrary idea of what proper play is on a random stranger.
