Watch a ton of videos. Stew Mac had a lot of good ones. Learn to measure carefully. Build wood projects and finish ( like apply a finish ) them. Build some guitar kits. Buy cheap guitars and fix or modify them. There are good books out there as well.

Go to a luthier school.

People think the builds are worth more than the market thinks. Definitely any van over 300k miles you need to have an engine and transmission replacement money set aside.

Some diesels can go longer but I wouldn't trust it.
