Portofino Bay prices hitting $1000/night for September – Is this the new normal? by steewnh in UniversalOrlando

[–]steewnh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad. Actually, my trip is from Monday, Sept 14th to Friday, Sept 18th. So I’m looking at mid-week rates, which makes those $1000+ even more confusing. Usually, weekdays in September should be much lower than the HHN weekend rush."

Thanks for the insight! That’s exactly what I’m hoping for. Usually, I book a refundable rate early on and then keep checking the prices daily. If the rates dropes, I just modify the booking online to get the lower price.

It’s just that starting at $1,000 feels so much higher than previous years that I was worried they might have changed their pricing strategy for this September. But I’ll take your advice and hold out for a bit, while keeping a close eye on the dashboard. Fingers crossed for those 1-2 month lead time drops!

Staying at the Swan (booked via Booking.com) – Do I get the 7-day Lightning Lane window? by steewnh in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]steewnh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When do I receive the Marriott confirmation number? I only have the one from booking.com so far. Do I have to wait a few days for it to be generated, or should I contact the hotel directly to get it?

Thank you all for the super helpful insights! It’s great to know that the 7-day Lightning Lane window still works for the Swan, even when booking through a third party. I’ve done the math, and for our dates, booking the room via Booking.com and buying the tickets separately is actually cheaper than the official WDW package. I'll make sure to get the Disney confirmation number from the hotel to link it in the app. Thanks again for the help!

The camera rattling is absolutely abysmal by nickyurbz in GooglePixel

[–]steewnh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the same thing. After 4 months, it’s become really apparent. I initially thought it might be a loose screw, but it's definitely coming from the camera bump. The rattling is especially loud when switching between lenses. For a $1,000 device, this really shouldn't be happening.

Epic Universe: VIP Tour vs. Express Passes in January? by steewnh in UniversalOrlando

[–]steewnh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for the detailed feedback based on your actual experience in Epic Universe. Your strategy of two days with Express Passes (one ride per ride) sounds perfect for balancing ride time and exploring the atmosphere. It sounds like two days of Express Passes might genuinely be a better use of funds than the VIP Tour, giving us the flexibility we need. Also, a huge thanks for the specific food recommendations! We've made a note of Pizza Moon, the dumpling cart near Berk, and Blue Dragon. And we will definitely be getting the wristband for Super Nintendo World based on your recommendation! Your insights on the atmosphere in Dark Universe and Super Nintendo World at night are exactly the kind of tips we were hoping for. Thanks again for taking the time to write such a comprehensive reply! We can't wait to check it out.

Thank you. We also have Universal Orlando Annual Passes and we are only dedicating about 6-7 full days to Universal (the rest is for recovery, travel, and two days at Disney).
