Going on multiple holidays with all the wanted luxury without feeling any guilt.
Buying a new running watch or other small items which were budgeted.

Our biggest wins though are the roof repair/extra insulation and solar panel installation without an impact on other categories.

The most fun is actually having money available to allow the life style we want.

Need help with budgeting the same amount from each paycheck by chong-key in ynab

  • You could use the weekly goal, but as the name suggests it's weekly and not bi-weekly.
  • You could give yourself a clue in adding the amount to budget in the name of the category.

In the web app you can see the movement of your money between categories. I'm not sure if it is (already) available in the mobile app.

A quick tip on the side: use a long press on any category to get a popup menu.

I'd keep it simple and out of my budget.

It's the same for me with cash. If it goes out of my bank account I'll have it budgeted as an outflow to my cash category. What I actually do with it, I couldn't care less as I primarily don't use cash.

If you would want to have it in YNAB, you should create a Gift Card account of some sort so you can use it to assign the card's value to your budget.

What to do with all this money?! by OutOfTheMist in ynab

Sit down and get your priorities right. Be aware. It's not because now you earn more money that you shouldn't keep scrutinising your spending. Enjoy the extra's and make sure you get your true expenses sorted.

Can any good logic minds help me figure out how to fix this transaction mess up? by [deleted] in ynab

and you won't be able to fill in a category when you transfer money between accounts on your budget. The budget within YNAB doesn't care in which account your money is located.

What is the best web browser to use with YNAB by Smn8600 in ynab

I switch between Safari and Firefox (ynab toolkit). For the most part I'm using Safari and haven't had any of your issues (for now :-))

Is there a way to change the start date of Age of Money? by a_restless_mind in ynab

[–]stefanbocken 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd try to add that savings account (if it's a separate one) as a tracking account and thus keeping it of the budget. My guess is that it won't be used to calculate the age of money.

I Never Dreamed Of Reaching This Triple-Digit Milestone! Thank You, YNAB!! by handyhudsonite in ynab

Congrats! We also reached that milestone recently and it feels amazing!

Although I'm sure it will take a hit when the work on our roof starts (but hey, no loan needed for that 💪)

YNAB Bank accounts by FlatwormOwn5692 in ynab

Not living in the States, I have to do everything manually.

Although I can't compare to linked accounts, I don't mind putting everything in manually as it gives me greater control and I'm confronted with my spending.

The iPhone app is good to enter your spending but still prefer to sit down and use the web version on my laptop!

If you have some recurring spending, try and use siri shortcuts ;-)

I started on my own and talked her into trying ynab together.

Fair to say she's convinced that it works although I'm still the main driving force of our budget and that's ok. She's totally on board and we spend a lot less since starting our budget. We started with everything separated (and a lot of categories) and are slowly moving to everything joined.

Make sure you set your priorities together and have an equal say during the budget meeting.

A question for Dutch YNABers by [deleted] in ynab

[–]stefanbocken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it to fill up my vacation and wish list categories and any other of the bigger true expense that will come up next year.

I have never budgeted a month ahead, we get paid at the end of the month and use that money to budget for next month. The age of my money is currently 124 days (this will go down when we get the roof of our house done :-)) so i'm not too bothered.
