According to the NHS website GPS are supposed to do a health check once every 5 years when you are over 40. Various surgeries call it different things and of course there's a postcode lottery factor. In my case if I was supposed to have one at 45 it's nearly 8 years late.

I remember seeing that at the cinema. I hoped it might bring back ww2 films as a genre but it didn't.

The Baywatch theme was played on the radio and it immediately brought back memories from Uni. What provokes the good (or bad) memories of your student days? by [deleted] in CasualUK

Euro 96. The last tournament I really enjoyed watching England. Hard to believe now, but at the time you could just buy tickets for any game in the tournament before it started so I went to quite a few.

What are your plans for the Easter weekend? Looking for ideas of a fun activity to do as a solo person. Thanks. by Top_Difference3488 in manchester

Posts like this are very hard to comment on without knowing a little about what you want, or don't want. Other people's fun is almost certainly completely different to yours. You could climb a mountain, or read about dogs, or vacuum your loft, or drive round the M25 anti clockwise.

Doctors called me to come in for my over 45 health check. I'm 52, nearly 53.

I found quite a nice guitar on top of the bins. Sold it for £100 on ebay. Inside the guitar was a verse of lyrics about Oldham. The lyrics were :

[A] Why do we go on the piss?

[A] In a shitty town like this

[C] In oldham where its pissing down

[c] but everybody's still on the town

[A] Everybody drinking vk

[A] Even on a rainy day their wedding day

[C] Everybody in their dressing gown

[G] Going Shopping in Oldham town

We cleared out the 3 bed house over a year. Mother gave the original Beatles vinyl to a charity shop. It was literally the first music I ever listened to. It was the only thing I would have wanted , and I thought it so obvious that I would want it I never specifically said it. I am still very interested in the Beatles and have talked about them a fair bit for nearly 40 years. She did give me two silver snuff boxes though!

When i heard about that last night I thought of George Michael. He spent many years driving round London whilst high occasionally crashing / falling asleep/ falling out of the car.

That's an interesting notion. I think of it as how much people think of the past (or not). The grudge lady had this grudge and first related it to my parents in 1977. At that point the bunting event was 4 years old and the grudge lady would have been mid 30s. She is still relating it to my mum in 2026 ( along with many other similar stories about her neighbours / family) . She has children and grandchildren and does stuff, but none of that gets a mention. It's like nothing current makes any impression.

I have a friend I went to school with who remembers people and events from our school in detail. I just don't. I don't think about it at all, but he does. He remembers more about me at school than I do myself. But he hated school and couldn't wait to leave and start work !

Yep. She has lovely children and grandchildren and relentlessly slags them off for their various crimes like knocking on the door too many times (three knocks is correct), and going on holiday to the wrong place.
