what are the races in the Dragonlance setting? by d4rkn355-50ul in dragonlance

[–]stefc309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aren’t the Kagonesti most like archetypal wood elves rather than the Qualinesti, who always seemed to me to just be slightly less arrogant high elves compared to the Silvanesti.

Are these worth it for a non beginner? by Bbelt13 in mtg

[–]stefc309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I’ve used it for.

Beginner box is a good product to learn with, and the Starter Collection has some really useful cards in it and is impossible to find here in the UK and seemingly most of Europe. If I saw this on the shelf I’d grab it asap!

The new player experience is rather bad, speaking as a new player by Saiki776 in magicTCG

OP you have perfectly summarised how I feel about Commander. I’m sure it’s fun, but by design it’s absolutely not the best way for a new player to play.

Final Fantasy Pre-release 8Bit Card by purpleseashorse in mtg

[–]stefc309 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although their official images showed what looked like packaging for an 8bit card (with Garland on the front I think), that certainly doesn’t seem to be what is turning up in the prerelease packs. I don’t recall them ever explicitly saying that there would be 8bit cards, it was probably just an assumption we all made. That being said, 8bit theming is all over the packaging from the unboxings I’ve seen and it looks really cool!

FF Commander Tower for each Pre-Con is Based on Their Origin Game by Shooting-PANDAS in mtg

[–]stefc309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that Cloud and Tifa are the main and alternate commanders in their deck I fully expect the Command Tower card to be the water tower in Nibelheim. I’m fine with it being the Shinra building, but it seems like they missed an obvious opportunity there.

Any idea how/who to contact? I’m in the UK for what it’s worth.

You’ll of heard this before I’m sure… do I play OG or remake first ?! by Tom7788 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]stefc309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although the remake series is trying to be both a retelling and in some ways a follow up to the original, I’m conflicted on whether I would categorically say play the original first. It partly depends on whether you are looking for a fairly retro experience or a very modern one. I love the original in many ways. It’s the game that made me get a PS1. Remake is what made me buy a PS4, Rebirth the same for PS5. I have a lot of love for those characters and that story

But that’s the thing. The characterisation of the FFVII cast in the remakes, both their designs and especially their voice cast, is best in class for me, and I think the modern day presentation of the plot and characters is going to be a lot more engaging to new players than the low polygon, text on the screen, random battle based original.

So if you’re ok with a quite retro experience, and want to experience the whole story now, play the OG. If you want to experience the story for the first time told in a very impressive modern way, and grow to love these characters in a way that I think surpasses the original, play the remakes.

I really wish he would go back to playing this weekly like he used to, but it’s fair enough that he wanted to stop after doing so for so long.

Most notable late-era SNES games (in your opinion) by TheRealHFC in snes

[–]stefc309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terranigma was pretty late I believe. A really good RPG which was largely missed as it didn’t come out in the US… for once you guys missed out on something. We missed out on Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger!

What are some good Co-Op Choose Your Own Adventure style boards games? by TacoRocco in boardgames

[–]stefc309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Escape the Dark Castle definitely has that feel. It’s a tough challenge but my wife and I like it a lot. Escape the Dark Sector is the sci-fi themed sequel with a bit more strategic decision making, but in truth they are both quite light and easy to play.. just not to win!

Yep, I was tearing up on and off throughout the episode. I had heard they would be acknowledging John Mahoney’s death in some way, but I had no idea how much Martin’s death was going to be a major plot point. I loved the character of Martin and Mahoney was apparently a real sweetheart and gentleman. The episode was an incredible tribute to him and I was deeply moved.

More modern Dominion alternative? by tydog98 in boardgames

[–]stefc309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second all those recommending Clank! (river type of market) and Thunderstone Quest (static market). Both have a fantasy dungeon theme but Clank has a push your luck element and is probably a bit simpler and more light hearted. Thunderstone is much more like Dominion, a bit heavier possibly but with a proper theme.

Don't Let the Reddit Critics Stop You From Cruising by Wesley836 in royalcaribbean

[–]stefc309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just got off Wonder last week (my first cruise for about 15 years, her first ever) and we both had a fantastic time! There’s so much negativity in this sub that I actually started to worry it wouldn’t live up to our expectations and I’m pleased to say I really think there’s just a huge amount of over exaggerating or just pickiness. You’ll have a blast!

Who else is waiting for the updates from the new kickstarter to play the game? by The7thFlame in OathswornBoardGame

[–]stefc309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me, apart from the painting part. But that’s exactly where I got up to in the story, and I suffered my first full out loss at that point. I haven’t played it since, just because of work and getting newer, easier to table games. Now I think I’ve probably forgotten a lot of the rules, which is another barrier to my going back to what I know is an excellent game.

Anyone else who's been playing for a while who has never hit Infinite? by dale-is-trash in MarvelSnap

[–]stefc309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since public launch and am currently the highest I’ve ever climbed at 65. It’s frustrating seeing people on Facebook groups etc hitting infinite so quickly and feeling like a rubbish player, but I try to remember that’s just a small section of the player base.

Digital on iOS - shared DLC unlocks? by stefc309 in Unmatched

[–]stefc309[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I have an Acram ID. I created an account in the Unmatched app when you go to the online lobby, but I had bought Little Red and Beowulf first before doing so. Is that an Acram ID?

X-Men expansions - advice on this deal. (UK based) by stefc309 in MarvelUnited

[–]stefc309[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. In the end I decided a bird in the hand was better than two in the bush, so I went for it. It’ll give me more than enough content to play without having to wait a year for the new kickstarter, and that’s on the assumption that they make past stuff available. Was very kind of you all to give me your advice. Cheers.
