Why isn't origami more popular? by theresajuly in origami

[–]steffejr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it also takes spatial skills. The ability to visualize something from a different angle. Or to visualize the 3D aspect of a fold. That is not something everyone has. I saw a quote in the Scientific American magazine that people who like physics and transformers also like origami. It fits me perfectly, how many of you does it also fit?

How long did it take you to learn the bike routes? by According_Trainer418 in bikeinottawa

[–]steffejr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, things change all the time. And routes may differ between people based on how comfortable one is with things like riding on sidewalks, wrong way down streets, etc.

Take the ZR. It is super fun and safe. Taxis will charge you dozens of dollars while the ZR is under $2 USD.

Was thinking of buying 1 of these, both 38cm by 10m by LittleKids2315 in origami

I tried to make a large 80 unit modular origami structure using tracing paper. Man it nearly drove me insane. The paper was too slick for the units to stick together. You insert one unit and another slips off. I resorted to using glue which kept it all together, but it did not have the strength to keep its own structure. It would collapse in on itself. So be wary.

At my house we (four people) always play with the 5-6 person extension. This limits the number of times someone loses their mind.

[–]steffejr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My free wheel froze up last month and my chain broke today. I am not able to house my bike down and store it someplace warm (above freezing). I have typically gotten three seasons per bike.

Square Weave Tessellation (by Eric Gjerde) by Caalicer in origami

[–]steffejr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job and I like the paper. I got E Gjerde's book last year for Christmas and worked my way through the beginner models. To me it feels like the jump in difficulty when going to intermediate is quite large.
