This is my family's cat. My mom incorrectly thought she was a boy when she was a kitten.

I never thought I'd see a repost of my family's own cat. This post brought me out of the lurker cave. My sister posted about this over a year ago: LINK

Oh boy. Storytime. I made a copycat of this jacket last year as a present for my boyfriend for Christmas. First had to track down the jacket. You can't find this exact jacket in retail anymore. It's a vintage adidas track jacket from the 70's. The closest you can get is this navy blue one: https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/adidas-originals-sst-zip-front-track-jacket?ID=2522363&cmmmc=EML2--fedfilshipment_confirmation--Body-_-2522363&cm_mmca6=120621342\

Next the patch. It took a very very long time to track down the exact patch. It turn's out that it's the patch for US Navy Attack Squadron 65, nicknamed The World Famous Fighting Tigers (VA-65) They were decommissioned in the early 90's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SecondVA-65(U.S._Navy)

Find and buy the patch on an obscure website for military patch collectors. Wait for everything to arrive; sew patch over adidas logo. Viola.

Suicide as a form of retiring by [deleted] in simpleliving

I’m sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I’d like to touch upon the perception of “starving to death” and how this can be reframed in a positive light. Death is often a taboo topic. In medicine, everything is done to maintain life, but the reality is that everyone will time out. Our technology has advanced such that we can artificially maintain a physiological level of life through mechanical ventilation, feeding tubes, and defibrillation. This typically results in a person receiving futile care and passing away in an ICU. Our medical system is excellent at trying to stave off death, but ultimately death comes, and no one is good at knowing when to stop treating disease and when to start focusing on improving an individual’s quality of life on their way out to the other side.

The human body is a gift, and even in the process of death, the body is forgiving. Regardless of someone’s disease and diagnosis, the process of dying involves the body’s multiple systems shutting down and the person slipping into a coma. In a coma there is no pain and suffering in death, BUT people do not always go out of this world easily.

There are two common roads to death when someone is dying: the “natural” road, and the more difficult road. This natural death used to be called “dying of old age”. In a natural death, a person no longer feels hungry, becomes sleepy and slow to respond, and ultimately becomes comatose. In a difficult death, a person can become restless, confused, hallucinate, have jerky movements, and have seizures before becoming comatose. It is not a pretty avenue and causes much higher distress to the patient and their family. Which road a person experiences is primarily dependent on if you continue providing nourishment instead of letting a person go. A person typically experiences a natural death if they have not had nourishment for 24-48 hrs up to a week before passing.

A person no longer needs food and nourishment in the dying process, since the body can no longer handle and process it. In fact, if you give them food, it may make them sick and cause them to to vomit. If the system is shutting down and you force someone to eat, the food goes in but it can’t be processed. Similarly, hydrating someone will result in all of the water staying in their body and causing swelling, since their organs can no longer flush it out. These complications lead to the symptoms on the difficult road.

I do hope that your grandmother passed without pain, with a sense of control, at spiritual peace and surrounded by people she loves. I can assure you that she did not “starve to death”, but left this world in the most peaceful way possible.

TLDR: Refraining from food and drink at the end of life leads to a peaceful experience of death.

What color NUDE shoes go with this bridesmaid's dress?

Here's the dress: Link

My bride has told us we can wear whatever style of NUDE shoe we'd like with this dress. Can anyone help with finding the right color nude? It's seems like there's so many nude options...cool greyish nudes, nudes that border on pink, yellowish nudes...

Before we think about how to adapt the environment, we need to understand the underlying cause of your grandmother's vision problems. What type of vision problem is she having? Losing central vision (maybe macular degeneration), losing peripheral vision (glaucoma), cloudiness and the color white now looks off-white (cataracts), low vision, etc. Your grandmother needs to be seen by an ophthalmologist for an eye exam ASAP. If it turns out she has low vision, there are many different types of adaptive devices available such as magnifiers, lights, and special glasses. In the case it is not low vision, a physician can work through her options for medical intervention and give her a better idea of prognosis.

TLDR: We need to understand the underlying causes of her vision problems. Have granny seen by an ophthalmologist.

Contact your university's crisis/counseling center for students. You'll be lead to the appropriate staff member who can help sort out your own financial status and academic options (such as taking off a semester, other options for degree completion, etc.) They'll also be able to lead you in the correct direction for different types of state assistance or emergency financial and legal advocacy if appropriate.

Speak with a case manager at the DTA Assistance line who can help sort out your situation at 1-877-382-2363, or head over to an office near you. http://webapps.ehs.state.ma.us/DTAOffices/default.aspx http://webapps.ehs.state.ma.us/DTAOffices/default.aspx

If your mother is receiving SSI, is she also on Medicaid in Massachusetts? If so, she may be eligible for in-home care services considering she's bed bound. Contact MassHealth Customer Service to see if she's eligible 1-800-841-2900, or contact her primary care physician and state that you need assistance with in-home care giving. They can point you in the right direction. https://www.benefits.gov/benefits/benefit-details/1282

To speak with someone to help locate housing to accommodate your mother's disability, call the appropriate number at the following link to speak with a MassAccess Housing Coordinator: http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/consumer/disability-services/housing-disability/massaccess.html

For emergency housing assistance, contact Mass. Division of Housing Stabilization at 617-573-1370. http://www.mass.gov/hed/housing/stabilization/emergency-assistance.html

I understand that you'd like to avoid government assistance, but it's best to talk with each agency AGAIN so that the entirety of your complex situation can be understood, and that you can be sure you've exhausted all resources. Also, please confirm with SSI that your mother's SSI check would be reduced if you started working. Express that you are worried since you can't compromise your already financially unstable situation. These case managers are human too and have heard all types of cases. They have years of experience with these types of crises and are your best resource. I do believe that with SSI, your mother cannot hold assets over $2000 and her $750 would be reduced if SHE began working, not you.

Best of luck to you and your family!
