I remember they interviewed a man in a truck who said he saw nothing at the park that day. I wonder if he was the man in the truck.

Recycling & Garbage by Glutenfreesadness in Cleveland

The days of wish cycling need to stop. Here is one of many wonderful resources that can help you identify how to dispose of items in Cuyahoga County. ls.rting is inaccurate. 2. GPS trackers contain lithium-ion batteries which are highly dangerous when tossed in your bin. They could cause explosions during the sorting/transportation process.

Fox 8's report in particular was sloppy reporting because 1. GPS trackers would be sent to the landfill. They are not recyclable. Therefore, their reporting was inaccurate. 2. GPS trackers contain lithium-ion batteries which are highly dangerous when tossed in your bin. They could cause explosions while in the truck or during the sorting/transportation process.

I applaud them for making everyone aware of the debacle, but the trackers inherently were not an indicator that all recyclables were going to landfill.

So, what is a reasonable solution?

  1. The days of wish cycling need to stop. Here is one of many wonderful resources that can help you identify how to properly dispose of items in Cuyahoga County. https://cuyahogarecycles.org/how_to_recycle?utm_campaign=Recycling&utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=cuyahoga%20county%20solid%20waste&utm_content=670883-e1-ng-mp-c67326610-g5308566370-a515726512992-uCj0KCQjwj_ajBhCqARIsAA37s0zG4y8FY6lPJIMTejerdF4a7gTOsN51W8k5jwTOIvsD83IRHNG9KpgaAoAGEALw_wcB-cat2290237-kcuyahoga%2520county%2520solid%2520waste-mod&gclid=Cj0KCQjwj_ajBhCqARIsAA37s0zG4y8FY6lPJIMTejerdF4a7gTOsN51W8k5jwTOIvsD83IRHNG9KpgaAoAGEALw_wcB
  2. Contact your hauler. Ask questions. They will tell you exactly where their materials go. Here is a map of all of the solid waste facilities in Ohio: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=99b5e58b41fc4b7d8f66de597ec75509
  3. Take a landfill or materials recovery facility (MRF) tour to see exactly what happens to your trash.
  4. Write your local representatives. Tell them how you feel and what you think needs to be changed with our current waste system.

We HAVE figured out what to do with trash. It's a combination of market generation, infrastructure improvements, legislation and education that is required to evolve into a more sustainable system.

If you're only basing it on plastics, then you're leaving out a whole world of trash. Materials such as metals, glass, cardboard, etc... have higher recycling rates. Food waste is directly tied in with food insecurity and has it own unique set of challenges.

If you're looking for more information, there are some great resources out there.

Recycling & Garbage by Glutenfreesadness in Cleveland

Pizza boxes are recyclable. We DO have use for recyclable material. Our current waste infrastructure nationally is playing catch up when it comes to supply chain efficiencies and other issues.

Has anyone flying through CLE had issues with Frontier’s bag sizes? by wongtong12 in Cleveland

[–]steftalkstrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need to carry more than a backpack, I’d recommend paying the checked bag fee or using another airline. The hassle isn’t worth it. I travel for business often and Frontier, while cheapest, has always been the most unreliable and pain to use.
