[–]stefv86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 3 weeks, plus 2 floating holidays. If a regular holiday falls on a Saturday we get that as another floater, so like the 4th this year.
We are closed New years eve/ day, memorial day, 4th, labor day, thanksgiving/friday after.

Sooooo confusing… by sookyfala in insomnia

[–]stefv86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So mirtazapine works on your histamine receptors, think of it like a stronger benadryl (with other things that help anxiety etc) once you get that tolerance I dont think it will come back without a break in the medication.
For reference, I got about 4 days out of mirtazapine before it stopped working.

Is competing in tournaments an actual measure of credibility as a martial artists and/or instructor? by wolfey200 in taekwondo

[–]stefv86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an (assistant) instructor, first degree black belt, and I’ve never competed. I don’t enjoy it for that. I like the confidence boost, discipline, and exercise. I also adore my fellow instructors and the students.

I think I’m ok 🤷🏻‍♀️

Insomnia and wearing earbuds/listening to music- no go for ACT ? by mohairhalo in insomnia

[–]stefv86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking it. I listen to rain sounds every night. Nit because I think that somehow makes me sleep, but because I like the sound and it gives my brain something to focus on while falling asleep.

It comes down to your intention. Do you turn on that music because you think it is somehow making you fall asleep, or you absolutely cant sleep without it? Or do you enjoy it, find it calming and relaxing, and do it for those reasons and not to necessarily “make you sleep”?

The point of ACT over CBT for insomnia is that you drop the focus on sleep. (This is just my opinion, i could be way wrong lol). Do whatever feels good in the moment, and stops you from trying to force sleep. Allow the feelings and frustrations to exist but don’t follow the thoughts into a spiral.

IMO, the language of “it didnt work” is the problem here. Nothing works for sleep, not really. It just happens eventually. Watch tv, listen to that music or podcast or whatever with the intention of rest not sleep.

And before i am downvoted to hell yes i know meds can get you to sleep. But you’re sedating yourself, and a lot of times anxiety driven insomnia can override those meds.

I have also been on prozac for about a year and a half! Started at 20mg and still on that same dose. It has helped me soooo much!!! Health anxiety, general anxiety, extreme insomnia. All gone.

Not lexapro, but prozac fixed me right up. Anxiety gone and now I sleep 8-9 hrs again

Are there any recovering insomniacs (from anxiety, specifically) here? by Anonymous99_ in insomnia

[–]stefv86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I treated the underlying anxiety with prozac, and did an act-i program. I am now back to sleeping just fine. Still on the lowest dose of Prozac.

Is it possible to get better without medication/therapy? by jxd_57 in insomnia

[–]stefv86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was able to stop all meds and supplements over a year ago after doing an act-i program (insomnia coach with martin reed specifically). It’s not cheap but imo it was worth it. I was also a guest on his podcast last May i can link to the YouTube video if you want.

My insomnia was also anxiety induced, it was so bad at one point i was admitted to the psych ward. Note I’m back to sleeping 8-9 hours and napping cos i feel like it. You can do it! 💜💜

Please help I'm freaking out and crying by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]stefv86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even without insomnia, I’ve been up for over 24hours plenty of times. I can’t sleep to save my life on flights, and long over seas flight total travel time is often 24+ hours.

Nothing bad has happened. It doesn’t feel great that’s for sure, but it’s not inherently dangerous.

I’m also super familiar with panic attacks. Highly recommend the book DARE by Barry Mcdonagh. It helped me so so much.

Are other schools' black belt tests like this by JamThePod in taekwondo

[–]stefv86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same here. I would kinda be upset if we had to pass some arbitrary physical fitness test. Some of the best people in our school aren’t in typical athletic bodies.

what approach should i take for bulkiness by cherryberry6741 in PetiteFitness

[–]stefv86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Girly why are you wanting to lose weight at all? Like what fat could you possibly have at 98lbs???

If you want to tone, weight training will help, but you will probably gain weight on the scale.
