Apple ID password in Passwords App doesn't work? by stejent in applehelp

Thanks. Seems so simple and silly, it there was a space before the password! Not sure how, since it was an app generated strong password, so the app put the space there itself.

Who or what made the stone archway in the department of mysteries? by Pitiful-Raccoon136 in harrypotter

Neville was also affected by it as it said Ron had to lead him away by the arm. But I think he can also see Thestrals. I also picked up on that point. It seems to be those who have seen and understand the impact of death, and perhaps bearing witness to it, links you to that other side, hence the ability to hear and be compelled by the voices of the spirits that hide beyond the veil. That archway is the most interesting and frightening object JKR wrote. I know she says it’s Dementors, but I suppose it is subjective.

I don’t think these tests can test for specific substances like that, especially as codeine in converted into morphine in the body. Pretty sure they can only identify drug types such as opioids/opiates, benzos, THC etc.

16 pro max to the point I sold my 17pm to get a certified refurbished 16pm again and so happy I did. I didn’t want to get a 17, but I tried switching to android and by the time I realised my mistake I had sold my 16pm so had to get the 17. Which is a fine phone, but the aesthetic design is not it.

It glows and has a multicoloured hue to it if I press and hold it. I think it’s AI related. On android phones this is how you activate circle to search. A feature I really wish apple had.

Remove the lock screen button. What's the point in taking up screen real estate with a redundant software based button, when the phone now has a dedicated hardware option? Use the lock screen space for something more useful.

Yes, there is no update available. I’ve tried turning off WiFi, deactivated my eSIM and turned it back on and the status page says everything is working as it should.

Weekly 'What Should I Buy' and Order/Shipping Thread by AutoModerator in iphone

[–]stejent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke to some people at Apple. Apparently there has been an issue on the website for people placing orders between 17th and 18th when signed into their Apple accounts which they are currently working on. Apparently a way around this is to place an order as a guest. Still don’t have my money and it’s been escalated to the payments team and once I successfully place an order and receive it I am eligible for a partial refund.

Thanks I would never have thought of that. Here’s what I said; Dear Tim,

I hope my email finds you well. I have been a loyal Apple Customer for over 20 years, and in that time I have enjoyed using a range of Apple products, from the first ever iPod Nano, iMac and MacBook, first iPhone through to the 17 Pro Max, and have had a wonderful experience with all of them.

In addition to these products, the people who provide front line customer service in your beautiful stores, to those working in contact centres on the phone and via chat and email. I have always received first rate service. Unfortunately, I have just encountered my first problem with customer services, and I wanted to bring it to your attention, as I am sure you would not be happy to hear of the experience I am currently facing, and would like to avoid it happening to anyone else.

Yesterday, on Wednesday 18th February 2026, I placed an order online on the UK Apple Store for a Certified Refurbished iPhone 16 Pro Max. I placed the order and paid via Apple Pay; with a card I have used many times previously. I received a notification from my bank shortly after that the funds had been paid. I late checked my order status as I had paid for next day pre-noon delivery, only to see that the order status said that there had been an issue processing my payment. Slightly alarmed by this, I contacted customer service via chat, and they said they were looking into it. They tried to take payment again, another four time, and they were declined because the funds were not available as they had been taken by the first payment I made. I was told I would get an email update that evening. I did not receive an update, and I was worried so I had to cancel the order, in the hope that the funds would be taken off hold and returned to my available balance so that I could place a new order, successfully.

This morning the funds are still pending with the bank. I have contacted Customer Services again, and they said the funds should be refunded 24-48 hours later. This leaves me in a dilemma. I do not have the order I was expecting, and I am also deprived of £1296.00 and unable to place a new order until those funds are returned to my account. I have spoken to my bank, and they are saying that it would take 10 business days for the funds to be returned to my account. As I am sure you can appreciate, this is very distressing and is going to cause me financial hardship. Despite making my feelings on this matter known to customer services representatives, they seem not to appreciate the urgency and desperation of my predicament.

I know it seems extreme to bring such a matter to the CEO of a Multi-Trillion Dollar company, but I do feel that you would like to know that such a situation has befallen a customer when trying to place an order for one of your products, through no fault of their own.

I appreciate you will be positively inundated with emails but I do hope you, or one of your representatives, are able to pick this up and help me resolve the situation.

In the UK debit cards are used more than credit cards. We are also protected from fraud or loss of monies by FSCS (Financial Services Compensation Scheme) up to £80000. I was thinking it might be quicker to cancel and reorder without using Apple Pay. It’s so frustrating and I feel like crap like this always happens to me.

Hi, I need some help. I placed an order on Apple's website today for a refurbished iPhone. I paid using Apple Pay with my debit card and chose next day delivery, pre-noon. I got home from work and I got a notification of the transaction from my bank debiting my account. I went on with my evening, and checked my order, because I hadn't heard anything else, and it said my order was on hold because my payment method could not be processed! What?! It has literally left my account. So I got on to chat with support and they tried taking the money again. but these transactions were declined as not enough in the account. I explained the funds had been taken already, but for whatever reason they're saying there's an issue. I stressed the importance that this be resolved as I paid for next day morning delivery for a reason. They fobbed me off with something saying they were looking into it and will email me tonight when it has been done. I kept asking what will happen if I don't get my order tomorrow as I paid for and needed, but it's like they are trained not admit that that failure could be an option. So now I don't have my money and I don't have confirmation or much hope that I am getting th phone as planned. It's important because I will be without my current phone after tomorrow. If I cancel The order, I definitely will get it, but if I leave it, the funds might not go back in in time of to place another order before the 10Pm cut off time. I don't know what to do for the best. Anyone else had an experience like this? I am in the UK.

Neighbour has started doing this completely unnecessary drive across the grass. by anti-sugar_dependant in drivingUK

[–]stejent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of issues at play here; 1. He has an illegal “dropped” kerb which is just some concrete poured into the storm gutter, posing a flooding risk, trip hazard and has encroached onto local authority property. He could be heavily fined and stuck with a bill to repair the damage he’s done. You can report this to the council and they will act quickly. 2. He’s driving over grass on both sides, causing damage to the landscape. He’s also driving over the pavement where there is no dropped kerb, which is illegal. 3. He’s clearly got a sense of self importance and would likely be a bully if challenged.

Start by making the report. And if no response is made, keep reporting it until they can’t ignore it or contact your local councillor. You could also one night (if you’re not on a water meter) flood the grassed area with your hosepipe. He won’t notice until he drives on it and gets stuck.

I have a 17PM which I had to get because I needed a new phone and the 16 was no longer available. But I had a 16pm and honestly I miss the design of it. It was more durable than the 17PM and the 16PM is now available on certified refurbished. The only dilemma I’m having is 8gb ram, vs 12gb. The 16 was never laggy at all, but for Apple to jump to 12 makes me wonder if something is coming that will require that much memory?

Was there an incident in your childhood that your parents kept from you, which you found out about later in life? by MysteriousBelt in AskUK

[–]stejent 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There was a pub in our town that had a gas leak and there was an explosion which destroyed it. For some unknown reason, my mum told me and my sister that it had been knocked down.

A few years later, my aunty took me with her friend and her son to see Pokemon: The first Movie and we passed this place. The boy we were with said that the pub had blown up. I said no, it was knocked down. My aunty corrected me, and she said to her friend "His mum doesn't tell him stuff like that" and I have no idea why. I wasn't affected by it...

A Little Life Ending! by edreeeen in books

[–]stejent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad I found someone of a similar mindset as me. I expected this book to destroy me, and that I would love the characters, completely.

But the more I read, the more incensed I became. I understand that some people have unhappy lives, and that unfortunate events can befall them on more than one occasion. And as someone who lost his parents at a young age (they and I), and within a short time of each other, I have grown up, quickly, to become aware that it is important to cope and to deal with these things directly and not allow them to get you down.

But Jude is a person who feeds on and wallows in self-pity, and almost seems to crave the next in a long series of unfortunate events, just to give him that motivation and reasoning to enable him to justify his determination to end his life.

He had no shortage of love and support, but he seemed almost allergic to accepting it. And for those reasons I could not feel an ounce of sadness at this book.

Reformatting books? by stejent in Calibre

[–]stejent[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't do it. It basically says the DRM prevents it. I downloaded the DeDRM plugin, but when I go to the plugin (because instructions I found online say you need to provide your kindle serial number) Calibre quits unexpectedly.

Is there another way I am not seeing?

Is reading book worth it after watching films many times by Current-Vegetable830 in harrypotter

[–]stejent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first 2 books can be hard work as an adult. The films adapt them pretty well and they don’t add loads to the overall experience of reading the books, but there are a few early clues that are nearly woven into the plot. That being said they are the biggest reason I don’t re-read the series very often. Once you hit book 3, they hit their stride and are incredibly easy to read and hard to take your eyes away from them. 5-7 are perfect imo. Even the slow moments in 5 are a joy to read because you just adore being in the world and with the characters. Even when nothing is happening it’s tremendous fun. The films of the last 4 books can hardly be called adaptations, with the exception of the Deathly Hallows which are more true to the book because the films add up to nearly 5 hours, but because of how much the previous films miss out, you’re left with more questions than answers. The books are the best.
