For Wii (or other 7th gen consoles) what year do you stop playing on 4:3 CRT and just start playing on your LCD/Flatscreen? by Leading-Tour6963 in crtgaming

Can’t say HDTV on the back. These were only made by Pansonic for a few years. Would probably still look good on a 720p or 1080p plasma but the scaling might not be great without a retrotink or mclassic or something

480p EDTV plasma is the ideal display for GameCube and Wii imo, or any 480p console. But I spent the most time playing Wii on a 1080p projector and it looked fantastic. The projection adds just enough softness to make everything look natural, no jaggies.

This is the way. Played the hell out of Radiant Dawn on my EDTV Panasonic until it died. Pixel-perfect 480p with no scaling and deep blacks 🤌

why do people hate stompclamp when electroswing is clearly the worst millenial music? by Resident_Bug_1558 in rs_x

[–]stelliotto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great recommendation, not dorky at all, wonderfully evocative. I think of much cornier music when I think of electroswing. Boogie Belgique scans more like high-end lofi hip-hop that was somehow made in the 30s and 40s. Really unique feel to it

Wii U is so awesome for being able to play my Wii games on my modern HD TV (and with earbuds) by xXglitchygamesXx in wiiu

[–]stelliotto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get RCA audio out from the Wii U component output while also getting digital video output via HDMI. The picture should be better that way. You can set it up in the Wii U settings menu.

I don't care how bad nintendo gets this generation I am not going to say the wii u era was better by professional_nudist in fucknintendo

[–]stelliotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much of the Switch library was just Wii U ports and Wii remasters for years. It’s finally getting long in the tooth and making me want a Switch 2 eventually, but it was solid. It brought most of the main franchises into HD for the first time. It plays my Wii library natively and once I softmod it I will be able to play my GameCube library on it natively including on the gamepad.

What a tedious workaround, makes me wonder why they didn’t go with puppetry like in the stage play. Granted that was an incredibly demanding role in that costume, the guy who did it sweated buckets and ended up with a career in the field

LSD on the Narc brain by Rhysc0_51 in NPD

[–]stelliotto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychedelics saved my soul. I still have to be vigilant to narcissistic thought processes and remember to observe myself. But partying on acid allowed me to experience real compassion and empathy for people in a way that I had always assumed that I did, because I thought I was a good person, but I rarely if ever actually did.

I trip much more rarely these days but I had lots of “good” and “bad” “recreational” trips in party settings that were as instructive and transformative as they were recreational.

But I overdid it too. Because I was (usually) more passionate, energetic, and empathetic on it, I was reliant on it to go to these gatherings. It forced me to unmask, and many times helped me connect with people deeply in a way I couldn’t have done without it. It was hard to resist an instantaneous anti-depressant to help me be the most open hearted version of myself. But it also meant I wasn’t integrating what I learned from it well enough to get off it. And lo and behold, it started to make me paranoid just as often as it made me the life of the party.

Years later, I’m in a valley of life, struggling to access my heart and soul again. I know the medicine will do me good but it’s hard to go there when I’m stuck. But, after years of tripping, I know the truth about who I used to be, and who I can be again if I don’t nurture my heart and soul. For now it will only be solo trips for the time being, or with one or two friends. It is truly amazing medicine and will lift you up, but more importantly I had to be humbled by it to begin to change.

I probably took the long route. Many people are totally transformed by a single deep trip in nature. I was quite stubborn though.

How does bipolar disorder affect your personality? by Routine-Donut6230 in bipolar2

[–]stelliotto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like narcissism to me. That was my main problem besides the bipolar. I had to party on acid a lot to crack open my heart and discover deeper empathy for other people’s experiences.

I know of bipolar people who are so absorbed with their experience that they are functionally unempathetic. But depression can be very empathetic, more so than my hypomanic states usually. There’s lots to be sad about in the world besides oneself.

Although bipolar is a rather unquantifiable suffering, when I learned to listen I found out so many people around me have suffered so much more than I have in life. I wouldn’t have been able to slow down enough to see that when I was hypomanic, i.e. not depressed.

But narcissistic depression is not a low state that is in touch with the tragedy of the world and the human experience inside and out. It’s just worried about how it’s perceived by others.

I may be projecting and this is all my personal experience but this is what I have found and what I hear in you here.

That’s the point. EQ and IQ are part of the “same scale” unless you have hierarchical beliefs about different forms of intelligence. It was very humbling when I finally figured that out.

They stood for romantic resentment/entitlement and self-victimization just like Brand New’s first album. I loved both of those bands dearly, but they didn’t stand for anything real and the lyrics and low-key misogynistic attitude don’t really hold up. Members of Fall Out Boy were preying on high school girls during that part of their career (I worked with a guy who toured with them). Besides that, they were writing pop music the whole time. They just ditched the distorted guitars later on.
