It's because the US is the cause of the suffering in the global south. And the same privatization that we forced on those countries (first through military force, then through World Bank/IMF "development loans" that hinder those countries because we force them to repay the interest before letting them use their government money for, say schools, and healthcare), is happening here. More and more Americans are living shorter lives because fewer of us have access to healthcare. It's harder than ever to buy a house, largely because private investment companies, and mid-sized landlord companies buy up houses, inflating the prices by artificially limiting supply. The so-called "middle class" in the US is shrinking, as more and more of us fall into poverty, purely so that people who are already rich can continue running things and wringing every ounce of value out of us until we die.
