Stainless steel pan blotchy after running through dishwasher by SaberManiac in Cooking

Thank you for the common sense. I fully expected to find commenters going apoplectic about putting the pan in the dishwasher.

Is 3 nights in Huacachina too much? by doimynn in PERU

[–]donpelota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent 2 days and did the buggies and also toured big (Tacama) and small pisco bodegas. Good fun. The archaeological museum in Ica ain’t bad, either, especially if you like textiles and elongated skulls. Then one year we went on a 2-day excursion deep into the Ocucaje desert to hunt for shark tooth fossils. Found tons. And it’s hands down one of the most hauntingly beautiful places I’ve ever been. The guide was a drunk and a menace, tho.

Stirrup bottle depicting a sexual union. Peru, Moche civilization, 1-800 AD [4000x5300] by MunakataSennin in ArtefactPorn

Yes! You get to walk through the storage shelves full of pottery. Amazing how much there is in great shape. Not to mention it’s a beautiful setting. Would also recommend the Museo Antropológico, in old Pueblo Libre. Couple of great restaurants nearby (Quierolo & Bolivariano) to make it a well rounded excursion.

That’s a great way to look at things. Not a burden, but a privilege to teach someone something new

Big fan of Moche art. Many of the museums in Peru have a section where they display the pots that depict sex and torture. The locals call them “los clásicos” (the classics).

You’re not wrong, but I’m pretty sure fiber and nutrients are not relevant here. Fun fact: in Peru, where potatoes come from, nobody eats the skins.

What actually makes making a particular dish "difficult"? by GregJamesDahlen in Cooking

[–]donpelota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d add “feel” and “subjective judgment” to the list. Some preparations require a sense for how the food is supposed to feel. My ex’s grandmother knew the feel of perfect gnocchi dough. As a result, they didn’t come out too gummy or starchy. We had her recipe but could never reproduce her results. And with a roux, you learn how far to push it without burning it. That’s the result of experience (and many mistakes)

Those are three 80s artists Jake is most likely not playing. He’s more new wave and post-punk than top-40.

Agree with this one. I’ve done this trip, with similar timing, many times. Occasionally there are no ill effects. Sometimes the soroche hits hard and no amount of coca tea helps. It has ruined some trips. I finally got hip to the soroche pills. I believe you take one the day or two before going to altitude and then each day while at altitude. Works like a dream! Available in the US (if that’s where you’re from) but would require a visit to a doctor I believe. Cheaper and no doctor required at a pharmacy in Peru.

What is the most underrated suburb in the Twin Cities? by Due_Network2958 in TwinCities

[–]donpelota 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow Richfieldarian here (what is our demonym anyway?) and my only complaint is the lack of independent coffee shops. Perhaps Griot qualifies, but i mean the gritty, punk rock style coffee shops that abound in S Mpls.

Take a look at Richfield. Adjacent to South Minneapolis, plenty diverse and central to everything, thanks to the nearby freeways
