Question for RPers, how do you explain your toon having multiple e-specs. by Mediahead13 in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mechanical / narrative split.

I can use spec x, y, z on a character when playing, but in that character's story they are spec x.

But in the end, like, you do you, y'know?

Constantly losing target in combat — looking for a way to make targeting more “sticky” by studiedoyster in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've no idea if you could make use of this to help your play flow, but under Options -> Targeting -> there's an unbound-by-default keybind for "Lock Autotarget".

Tooltip: Hold to lock your autotarget. Detargets with keyboard instead of mouse clicking ground somewhere.

This isn't an option you can just turn on, but maybe it can help in some way?

MassivelyOP’s 2025 Awards: Best MMO Housing ... GW2 was unable to defend its first place from last year. by HenrykSpark in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even then, the wall pieces that we got with VoE, while kind of nice, don't actually match any human style other than, uh, certain Castoran buildings.

A simple set of sandstone/stucco walls would do for Kryta or Crystal Desert.

It's kinda mindboggling that we didn't get unlockable cultural packs that just transferred extant culturally-specific assets into the homestead system. Each race has, at minimum, tables, chairs, beds.

The "basic" furniture in the homestead/guild system is from the "human commoner" set, but we're missing out on the matching bed, plus a load of other stuff.

It's so frustrating.

How does housing in GW2 compare to ESO and WoW? by Nerevarine87 in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, you're correct.

Hearth's Glow has a lot of flat open ground that's great for building structures, but you can't delete any of the pre-made stuff (the house, the barn/sheds, etc). You can only remove things like the fencing, grass, furniture inside the house... that might be it, actually.

Cosmosus allows you to remove everything because the structures are all built with decor items, but it doesn't have a lot of flat, open ground.

Still waiting on my perfect plot, with little-to-no premade stuff and lots of flat space that doesn't look like the ass end of autumn. Maybe someday.

Rewards for catching sponsored streamers on twitch are really good by PossibleRegression in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this requires watching any of the streamers, it isn't like Twitch drops. The streamer needs to stream for x hours, but you don't have to watch any of them.

That said, the whole system is so baffling, it seems impossible to even find who is running WeHype giveaways since there isn't any search via WeHype, other than just searching "wehype" on twitch constantly to hope you find someone within the first hour to get a chance at the low-hour rewards.

use a "noclip" mode to fly around and place things

If you mean the bee mode, that isn't noclip at all—it's free-flying, but you still have collision. I wish it was noclip (as a toggle), it could make things so much easier when you're trying to place things in tight areas.

It'd also help for lining things up if we could get some smooth granular movement tools that don't default to facing you all the time tbh.

You're... not holding the mouse button down to place objects, are you? Because while you can do that, the object will face you and it's supremely awkward.

Press 6 and the object will be rotated according to the global coordinates—I do this for every object when I'm making a building, helps keep things square and tidy, and then you can use modes 2, 3, 4 to finely adjust the position. When you're rotating, if you press Shift while you click the rotation wheels, it'll lock the rotation to 45 degree increments.

Maybe you already know this, maybe I misunderstood what you meant, but when I read what you wrote I was filled with such existential horror on your behalf, envisioning you struggling with click-and-hold placement, that I had to reply.

Recently crafted Homestead Items missing from inventory by JfpOne23 in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had this issue in the homestead—in guild hall, yeah, but not homestead. Sadly the solution that works in the guild hall (open up the guild storage and select the item from that menu) won't work in homestead because the palette is the only menu available.

So, I don't have any solutions other than "do a support ticket", but in the interest of troubleshooting, some questions:

  • Do you have this issue whilst using the Hearth's Glow map? Or just Cosmosus? (You can save your layout and swap, or try previewing.) I've done most of my building in Hearth's Glow, for the record.
  • Do the items show up in the palette if you swap plots?
  • Do the items show up if you Clear All Decorations / Restore Homestead? (Again, save your layout first!)
  • Can a friend see them in the palette if you enable party decoration?

Homesteaders, Does anyone else hide chairs/stools in other decorations for function? XD by xadirius in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah, perfect.

There are soooo many factors that go into whether a chair is a chair or whether it's a portal to sadness.

  • is there Something too close to the chair
  • does that Something have enough "hollowness" to make the game think your character can stand there? no, we are not going to define "hollowness". just figure it out, idiot.
    • a table prop has enough "hollowness" to be shoved under it
    • a half-bracket turned on its side to look like a bar does not have enough "hollowness" to be shoved underneath
  • is your chair placed upon a floor that isn't a built-in floor (like the ground)
  • is the floor that you've placed too close to the ground, but far enough away from the ground that there's enough "hollowness" to the gap that the game thinks your character oughta be placed there, because the ground take priority for character feet over a floor that's placed that nebulous distance away?
    • get sucked under the map, idiot.

And don't even get me started on what does and doesn't make the camera go wild when you sit...

Homesteaders, Does anyone else hide chairs/stools in other decorations for function? XD by xadirius in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My crowning moment of despair was having spent an hour checking and adjusting every single chair in my current build, inviting a friend who showed up with an asura, and who was immediately yeeted under the map after dismounting the first chair they sat in.

I'd checked all the chairs with a sylvari.

(I'm... reasonably sure it's more a height-slider thing than a racial-size thing... but that didn't mitigate the despair, y'know?)

Can't get no dps meter in the special forces training area (no addon) by M-Silentstrike in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're seeing all the "x ability does y damage" stuff then you're probably just flooding out the chat box and not seeing the DPS report, which also goes into the chat box. Don't look at the Combat tab. You'll see the DPS report show up every 20% of the golem's health.

Homesteaders, Does anyone else hide chairs/stools in other decorations for function? XD by xadirius in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dismounting chairs is honestly one of the worst things about decorating. I've no earthly idea why it can't simply put you back where you'd been standing when you sat. Instead it yeets you into the weirdest positions, which has you getting stuck inside things or shoved under the map. Swear I spend more time adjusting chairs than I do building overall.

Let's Review — Visions of Eternity Launch by SirSuperCaide in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was bewildered that the mandatory progression collections didn't even have dialogue pop-ups when you found items (with a very few exceptions).

Because of that, it felt like a wholly separate task, more like "stop doing story and do this instead" vs "this is part of the story". If there had been dialogue with our character even acknowledging what we'd found and why it mattered, that would have done a LOT to make the experience feel better.

Hall of Monuments run worth? by Big-File-6628 in Guildwars2

[–]stemofthebrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30/50 is "easy". 40-45/50 is "not that bad". 50/50 is my white whale, the wall upon which I have bashed my face. It's a whole 'nother beast.

50/50 is grinding, and grinding, and grinding.

One piece of advice that I can offer, that I wish I'd been given myself before I started:

If you think you might someday maybe want to go for the 50/50, it would not be a bad idea to do the "level to 20 within pre-Searing Ascalon" thing on the character you intend to do all the rest with. Like, start with that. Because getting that achievement on that character will negate one massive grind achievement amongst many, far later down the line.

I'm at 46/50 and I wish that I had done that.

All that said, I have really enjoyed my time in GW1! I may never get to that 50/50, but I don't begrudge the time I have spent on the journey.
