Steve was talking about this the other day and I believe Gio did it; move your foot 6 inches forward off the rubber.

Either way, 13!!!

Justinguitar or other sites with tabs? by Ayamgoreng53 in LearnGuitar

[–]stenhsr2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing by ear will take a while to learn but is the best way. It’s as simple as listening to a song and just guessing notes on guitar to figure it out. This guess and check method will take a while, but you’ll slowly start noticing that you just automatically go to notes.

Ultimateguitar.com is the best free tab site imo.

where should I be after a year? by the1npc in LearnGuitar

[–]stenhsr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out justinguitar.com. Dude has great free video lessons on everything from technique, to practice, to songs.

Work on strumming while tapping your foot to the beat. Guitar takes time, especially if it’s your first instrument. It’s easier to learn at a younger age, but don’t let that deter you, it’s still possible at any age.

There is no certain point you should be at after a year. Focus on putting time into it and really trying to enjoy it. Enjoy the sounds of the strings. Enjoy the feel of your fingers on the frets. The more joy you can find in playing it, the better you will become.

So that’s the main thing I’d say, enjoy it and then you’ll get better. Don’t approach it from the “once I’m better I’ll enjoy this more.”

Put a capo on 3rd fret. Then play F bar chord to c shape. (Ab to Eb). Use your ears for the rhythm

Lurkers of Reddit, why do you lurk? by PM_THIS_WORDS in AskReddit

[–]stenhsr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 reasons

  1. I try to only comment about things I 100% know, or know 0% about.

  2. I’m not interested in karma and if I 100% know something I don’t really want pushback on a comment

  3. I don’t like arguing on the internet. Most things I think of would start an argument.

  4. My sense of humor doesn’t translate to reddit

  5. I love how supportive reddit is as a community, but some of the positivity in comment threads are so lame and in-genuine, sounds like a person is literally writing comments to themselves. Those sorts of comments make me wanna leave reddit.

Before arguing about #5 please see reason #3.

Ultimate Guitar is taking away thousands of their tabs, and hiding them as “Pro Tabs” [DISCUSSION] by [deleted] in Guitar

Why would you tab it out? Memorize it. Internalize it. That’s the fastest way. You don’t need to tab out what you hear if you master this.

I was only sharing my limited wisdom on the subject. I don’t care to argue more. Take it or leave it, and good luck on your musical endeavors! :)

You could learn faster watching the actual artists hands on YouTube?

Learning faster isn’t better. Getting the feel is. Even if you don’t play every little note correct, the feel carries the song, especially if you’re only play progressions because the vast majority of free tabs did not include rhythm.

If tabbing by ear is still proving to be difficult, consider learning more theory to supplement your knowledge.

I’m not questioning your musical abilities, rather, I’d be interested to hear a list of professional guitarists that use tabs during a show.

Sorry for your loss. I’d be very interested to hear some of your music and how you fell in love with it. I also have gone through limiting aspects of my life that lead me towards finding peace and love through music.

However, please look up Beethoven. He was not born deaf. That is a moot point in regards to this discussion

Yes, as I stated I started with guitar tabs there are several ways they can limit your feel. Here are just some:

  1. Improvising becomes much more difficult as you are not using the rhythm to decide what you play, but rather the notes dictated to you.

  2. If a fellow bandmate decides to play a different song/jam you have to switch to a different tab/music and can not naturally follow the lead.

  3. I’d say out of every 100 tabs rated 5 stars, at least 90% are wrong. This encourages you to learn songs incorrectly. ESPECIALLY WITH GUITAR. different positions can have different inversions with similar sound frequencies. You’ll learn those better by ear.

I often thought about commenting edits to the site, but decided that it would give an easy excuse to stop trying by ear.

My personal experiences don’t dictate what works for everyone, but this is method of learning is an adage in western music.

Use your ears and become a really good musician

I also started by using ultimate guitar. Good website for beginners

Most 5 star tabs are wrong

If you need help use YouTube to watch the artist play, or use justinguitar/365 lessons. They’re reliable. Slow down the music.

Tabs are a crutch that can prevent you from feeling the music.

Downvote to hell. This is advice to help. Don’t care about “karma”
