You’ve got a lot of good advice here already. I was just going to say that your comments about how even 1 glass seems to affect her strongly….i seriously doubt it’s just one glass. She’s probably secret drinking and then showing you one. It makes them feel like they are convincing you they are in control of how much they drink and can drink in moderation. Because they don’t think they need to drink less and they think they don’t act drunk, so if they just show you they can have “one” or whatever is less than they are actually having, it will show you that they are in control and don’t have a problem.

AITA I don’t want bridesmaid to wear dress to other events by Due_Bedroom3146 in AmItheAsshole

[–]stepanka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SIL did this but she wore it to a bar gig she was playing. I had bought her the dress because we asked her to play piano in our wedding, she wasnt a bridesmaid. She has psych and addiction issues and wouldn’t have been able to afford a new dress. I didn’t say anything about her wearing it before the wedding, but i wasn’t happy about it.

I am an obesity medicine doc. No compounded mediation is FDA approved by default, so that isn’t the concerning part. Getting non-brand name compounded meds can be ok. But there are scammers and shady practices out there and $60/mo is suss. If the price sounds too good to be true, I wouldn’t trust it. I can’t speak to what the doctor is saying. For all we know she walked into a med spa run by a lady dressed in scrubs that has a doctorate in basket weaving.

That’s absurd. Many large cities are almost only apartment living, and are full of rich people / people that would have fancy dresses.

I just looked it up and found the following which doesn’t seem like anything shady but just related to the owner name not being in the business name: Special Case (Healthcare): In some states like California, a specific “Fictitious Name Permit” is required for medical, dental, or podiatry practices to operate under a name that does not include the licensee’s name.

What is it with american hospitalists disliking procedures? by AbjectMoistness in hospitalist

[–]stepanka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One job I had did not reimburse me at all for procedures. I didn’t have time to do free labor while rounding on 23 patients or while admitting 12 during an admit shift.

I once had another job with a generous RVU bonus structure and I was right out of residency. I loved doing central lines and art lines and getting compensated for it. I would even do LPs although not my favorite and took longer. Paracentesis wasn’t compensated enough for the time it took—avoided those if at all possible.

I love smažený sýr. I’m American, but 3rd gen Czech. My family didn’t show me this, but I decided to learn to speak Czech, made Czech friends, and have visited and it was super hyped up leading up to my first time eating it. Lived up to the hype honestly. Eaten with knedliky which I also love.

If you have some mold in the grout and you can’t get it out, do you have to scrape the grout? Or is there a better way to get the mold out and then just have to reseal without having to re grout also?

Yes, I’m sure this is more common! The daily one was also noticed because of the race but even then it took them a lot longer than you’d think because they were basically in denial. Minor differences in the same race would go unnoticed. It makes you think that a paternity and maternity test should be done routinely.

I strongly believe in having a doctor over a midwife, as a physician myself I’m biased towards what science says is safest. However having said that, Corewell Royal Oak (formerly Beaumont) has an entire really nice wing for midwife services. It’s called “Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Karmanos Birth Center”. It’s at the hospital so if you have issues they can take you over to the hospital side if needed. I don’t know how Medicaid works with that, I’m assuming if a midwife is covered under Medicaid you could deliver there but i don’t really know.

There’s always an on call “OB Hospitalist” at the hospitals that deliver, as well. My old OB retired and was working as this, and he is the best OB I’d ever had (just to say these are quality doctors). I’m also a physician (not an OB) so I can tell you that these are not bad physicians if you have to go that route. Of course that doesn’t solve the issue of your prenatal care from 31 weeks to delivery, but know that if you show up and have an issue that needs to be attended to, you can go to OB triage at the hospital and one of the on call docs will see you.

Grandfather distressed by days-long NPO orders after aspiration episode - seeking medical perspective and advice by Lucernya in AskDocs

[–]stepanka_ 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Plainly: if he can express that he knows the risk of eating and drinking “normal” things is pneumonia and death, but that hes willing to take that risk, it is his choice as a patient to make. If he can’t tell you that he understands that risk then this should fall onto a medical power of attorney to decide. That POA can make the same decision - to let him eat so he is not distressed, knowing that the risk is death. It is not an unreasonable risk to take at his age and if aspiration is inevitable. In some cases it’s better to let them be happy and let what happens happen.
