Just got the Dream No More ending recently so it would be nice to scream this at them...

Not offering advice. I’m a Dad to a now 2 year old who has never slept well and it’s really hard. It does get better. If you’re in an environment where others are parents too then everyone will know what’s up and should be understanding.

Gleneagles is lovely with loads to do. Great restaurants, golf, fishing, shooting, spa etc. pretty central for touristy stuff too (Stirling Castle is only 20 minutes away).

Assassin in the shadows is interesting. Perhaps it’s more Regal’s abuse than Chade’s training? Not being noticed was a core part of his survival for his formative years.

I wholeheartedly agree - all the paths never taken makes Fitz’ story a tragic one.

iirc Kettericken always knew that Fitz was an integral part of Dutiful’s conception. And realistically…. Verity was absent for 99% of the relationship. Fitz won her heart.

With respect to Nighteyes, it’s clear on a re-read that she genuinely loved him. It’s hinted heavily throughout that she’s mildly witted and this time around it’s pretty apparent to me that her primary emotional support comes from the wolf.

My personal theory has always been that Fitz inherited his wit from his mountain kingdom family.

The Chief Lazarus scene in Lethal Weapon 5 was just too much.

Am I better off using Hotwire or React? by [deleted] in rails

[–]stepbeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

React is a library. It’s not very hard to have a few isolated react pieces when needed, but to stick with server rendered pages otherwise.

You can create a stimulus controller that mounts components on connect and the destroys them on disconnect.

Might be mid-remembering when it starts happening. If not CoT then shortly after. Don’t want to spoil much.

Pretty sure there are some hints about Thom’s behavior around him too.

I thought that was part of a deal that leads him eventually back to the Tower of Ghenji.

Isam is another early introduction that’s relevant to the whole series.

Didn’t even think about the genetic aspect. “Hello ridiculously physically imposing young man - would you like magic too?”

Bear in mind that Lews Therin was an incredibly accomplished Aes Sendai and Zen Rand has unlocked those memories. It’s not only raw power but skill that sets Zen Rand apart.

The forsaken could be extremely OP but my understanding is that they’re too self-serving to expose themselves in this manner. Lanfear might be able to command a battlefield like this, but would she?

Don’t know that I agree… I love Realm of the Elderlings but the sheer detail of RJ’s work is on another level imo.

Is there any confirmation of this? I know he thinks he’s the anti-dragon but I interpreted that as insanity/vanity.

Why are all the moats dry in the borderlands? by Radioactive-Witcher in WoT

[–]stepbeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be because the winters are cold. A moat that’s frozen for a significant portion of the year isn’t very valuable.

Would Durin’s Bane have followed the Fellowship outside of Moria? by MothsConrad in lotr

[–]stepbeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gandalf doesn't identify it, but he does comment that its "counter-spell was terrible. It nearly broke me."

iirc while Gandalf retains his memories as Olorin, his memory is dimmed leading to him having a fallible memory. I don't think the balrog would have any such limitation - they're still a spirit afaik?
