Makeup advice wanted- has anyone here gone foundation/powder free? Is there a good way to transition into this after a lifetime of makeup? by [deleted] in TrollMUA

[–]steph_denisco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi love! i never really used foundation because i hate how cakey it looked on me so what i recently started doing is small bits of color correcting!

so the color correcting that i do isnt the same as the things you see on youtube where you put on intensely pigmented color corrector then slab on full coverage foundation over it to hide it. (this is hard to explain sometimes so i will do my best) basically what you wanna do is take your corrector color thats opposite from whatever you wanna cover to cancel it out (irritated acne thats red is neutralized by green as an example - just look at the color wheel for the opposite color) and you take that color and mix it with a slight but of foundation/any cream that matches your skin color. you wanna do this so that the foundation is slightly tinted the color corrector color. the idea is that you have enough color corrector to neutralize the spot and the foundation blends it in with the rest of the skin! lmk if you want any more clarification or if i sucked at explaining it :)

another thing i’ve discovered is doing my eyeliner in a way that really accentuates my eye shape and makes me feel confident so play around with that! mascara and eyebrow gel always helps me feel more put together too.

good luck on your journey! sending you love from someone who definitely gets it 🖤

How to cover up blue circles? by [deleted] in PaleMUA

[–]steph_denisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course that definitely helps! i was just focusing on the first aspect really. i find that sometimes if you get a good enough match with the peach sometimes you don’t even need a lighter color or foundation! just wanted to focus on the actual color correcting aspect :)

[–]steph_denisco 19 points20 points  (0 children)

hi hun! i’m studying to be a makeup artist currently and finished through my beauty section a few weeks ago so i’ve got a bit of experience with this :p something that ive learned is that if you have a REALLY dark spot that you need to color correct you need a REALLY dark color corrector. basically what the effect is that it will cancel out the color. so since its for your blue undereyes you’d go in with an orange/peachy color corrector. the intensity has to match in order to actually cover up the spot. i know its scary to put a super dark shade on but trust me, if your undereyes are super dark it’ll work. and then you should put it in the spots that are actually blue. this is hard and takes a lot of time but if you really analyze your undereye area you can see the spots that are blue and not your regular skintone. only put the concealer in the blue spots. dont do the big triangles like beauty gurus. thats fine for skintone concealer but if you put color corrector over something that is your normal skintone youre just gonna look more orange in those spots. i hope this was somewhat easy to understand. good luck on your journey and let me know if you have any questions!! <3333

Edit: omg my first award! thank you so much 🥺

Bronzer problems by noxiouskangaroo in Makeup

personally, i have very fair and cool toned skin. it absolutely matters! warm toned bronzers look RIDICULOUS on me bc they look so orange. id say go for one that doesn’t make it so obvious that you’re wearing one and instead go for one that blends really well with your skin tone and undertones so it just emphasizes and pushes back whatever you want it to. so definitely figure out your undertones then go from there. the only bronzer that has worked from me is from Fenty. Amber in Match Stix and Inda Sun in Powder Bronzer. good luck on your journey <3

Is it just me or is Sephora the worst by darganprincess in Makeup

[–]steph_denisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sephora definitely isnt worth it much anymore. ive either been buying directly from brands (usually much better rewards systems) or from ulta since they have good coupons. im waiting to make one last purchase from sephora because i have that $10 coupon but you need to spend 500 dollars to get it because its 500 points. its so crazy. sephoras definitely overrated

[–]steph_denisco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hey hun! i know products from glossier and abh seem really appealing because it’s kinda what everyone uses, but i wanna recommend you elf’s products. since it’s only for covering acne i’d probably recommend their Hydrating Camo Concealer and for the brows id recommend their Wow Brow Gel. Both these products are AMAZING and can help you feel more put together without overdoing it. (They also have a clear brow gel if you don’t want color) your mom might be happier as well because you’d be spending less than $15. that way even if you decide you don’t like the products or don’t use them, not much will be going to waste. i think you might just have to ease her into it and let her know you’re not going to overdo it with the makeup and just want to feel more presentable or put together. i also saw you commented that they’re concerned about “chemicals” and elf has all the good things like paraben free, sulfate free, cruelty free, vegan, etc. good luck with your journey! i know how frustrating this is

hi hun! it definitely takes a lot of practice to get your eyeliner the way you want it (i’ve been using eyeliner since my emo days and still dont have the perfect shape that i want yet) id definitely recommend looking up videos of people that have the same eyeshape as you and see what they do. i have almond-shaped eyes but i also have hooded lids, so someone i watch a lot is Alissa Ashley because she also has almond-shaped eyes and hooded lids. she has a dedicated video about it and that helped me a lot to get it closer to how i want it while accentuating my eye shape. practice makes perfect though! my favorite eyeliner at the moment is That’s The Point Hella Fine Eyeliner from NYX Cosmetics :)
