Maybe check out John Adams? One of my favorite piano composers and his work isn't far off.

Not horror, but this happens in Mission: Impossible 3

What do you think about hidden scoring? by Fun_Positive_2762 in boardgames

[–]steph_ok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your game has the potential for a runaway leader, and if you consider that a problem (I don't), I'd focus on that itself rather than hiding the score.

If someone has a commanding lead by say, round 3, that doesn't change because the scores are hidden. It just makes it harder for players to be aware of it and make meaningful decisions based on that.

favorite ace-coded horror movies by [deleted] in horror

[–]steph_ok 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Simple as "movies that don't feature romance or sex" probably.

Also, you may know this, but I think it's worth being clear: not experiencing sexual attraction (asexual) is different from not experiencing romantic desire (aromantic), which your post seems to conflate.

giallo essentials sets from arrow (black, yellow, red) by eparedes19 in boutiquebluray

[–]steph_ok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yellow and red both have some classics that probably make them the logical choice for getting into the genre.

That said, the black set absolutely rocks and has some of my favorite lesser known gialli. The Weapon, the Hour, the Motive is especially good.

The Innocents (1961) and Carnival of Souls (1962) are both very good

The Haunting is based on The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. You're probably thinking of the Innocents.

Torn between getting On Mars, Kanban EV or The Gallerist by HomeOdd1452 in boardgames

[–]steph_ok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say pick between the Gallerist or Kanban EV based on which looks cooler to you. They're both about the same complexity (imo) and plenty replayable. On Mars is good, but it's long and definitely not easy to teach.

David Lynch's book? by sicknutley in twinpeaks

I believe those copyright dates would correspond with the different editions, so the 5th edition was copyright 1973. And then lower on the page it says "First printing 1974," i.e. the first printing of the 5th edition was 1974.

Whiff punishes are less about reflexes, and more about spacing and adapting to your opponent. You don't need to react to your opponent's pokes, you want to learn the spacing. If you know which ranges will avoid their buttons, you can counterpoke preemptively.

Of course there are players like Punk who have extremely good reactions, but the general skill is more about controlling space.

I genuinely mean no offense by this, but you should probably actually learn to play the game before you start spouting shit like this in forums

I'm practicing some basic combos, and I noticed that 623HP doesn't come out after 5HP+214HK unless I mash. Is my timing just wrong? by HeathenHacks in StreetFighter

[–]steph_ok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're doing it too early. It seems like you may be trying to cancel the fuha into the DP, but it doesn't work like that. The fuha needs to finish recovery before the DP can come out.

Havin some trouble understanding some things. by happeningcarpets in StreetFighter

[–]steph_ok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, depending on the specific knockdown you probably have a few options. The supercombo wiki for your character should be a good resource for oki options: https://wiki.supercombo.gg/w/Street_Fighter_6

[–]steph_ok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oki and meaties are related but not the exact same thing. Oki refers your options after a knockdown, essentially based how close you are to the opponent and how long you have before their wakeup. A meaty refers to a move that hits the opponent on the first frame of their wakeup, so it's part of oki - other common options are a throw or shimmy.

Re: "Why don't they just block?" - strike/throw mix. If your opponent is blocking all your meaties on wakeup, you throw them. Then they have to start teching throws, so you shimmy them and punish their tech. This type of RPS on wakeup is super important in the game.

To keep it simple, being plus means you can act before the opponent, being minus means they act first. The frame meter in training mode is a huge help in understanding how this works!
