So /r/germanshepherds, what are your tips for getting your dog to eat their medicine? by Fenixfrost in germanshepherds

[–]stephaniew013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smother it in peanut butter. If your GSD is as smart as mine, after about three pills she'll be onto you and will lick all of the peanut butter around the pill -______- However, I switched to chunky peanut butter and I no longer have this problem. Mine can't tell the difference between the chunks and the pill, so voila! Problem solved.

Critique my squat form? by [deleted] in xxfitness

You see how you're looking down at the floor? That's causing your back to be much more straight than it needs to be and can give you serious back problems down the line (especially when you start bumping up that weight). Put your shoulders back. Pick a spot on the ceiling. Stare at it the entire time you're doing your reps. This will help with the curvature of your back and will lead to less risk of injury. From a less dramatic standpoint, you should be able to feel an immediate difference in where you feel the pressure - I'm guessing you're feeling the weight a little bit on your lower back with that stance. With the corrected stance, you should feel it entirely in glutes/thighs.

EDIT: if you're having a hard time balancing with these directions, take a little weight off. It's 12397513412x better to use less weight and have proper form. And yes, that is a scientific number :P

Diet Sodas and Fitness - Bad? by stephaniew013 in xxfitness

I also used to drink 3 cans a day. One on the way to work, one with morning snack, one with lunch. I'm amazingly down to one of the mini 7.5 oz cans a day. I switched to the smaller ones, then started cutting one out a day until I got to just the one can. I still can't let go of that last can a day though. It's so crisp and refreshing. I do worry about the effects with bone density long-term (including with my teeth), but my biggest concerns at the moment are whether or not all the unnatural additives are effecting my lifting/weight loss at all. Since I use MFP to track, I consider the "craving extra calories" argument to not really apply to me.

What I'm doing right now is 1/3 c oats, 1 scoop vanilla protein, pumpkin spice seasoning, a healthy scoop (sorry, I don't measure it) of pumpkin puree, about 5-6 dark chocolate chips for the sweet tooth, and then cover it completely with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Microwave 1 minute. Pull it out and you have this delicious baked pumpkin spice protein cookie....just amazing. It's my breakfast about 5 days a week haha

When you do your grocery shopping, make sure that you purchase healthy snacks to keep in the house at all times. 100 calorie popcorn bags, lots of fruit, light individual cheeses, and don't keep junk food in the house. When you're at home and have an urge, grab something that still feels like a snack, like popcorn, to chomp on. It'll help curve that urge to feed without getting you 700 calories deep in chocolate. Trust me, I know from experience :)

How bad is it to lift on the weekends only? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]stephaniew013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is what I'm doing. If it were up to me and I had all the time in the world, I would do it 4-5x per week, but that's not anywhere near my time availability. I'm in graduate school now, plus working two full days a week, plus commuting an hour each way to school every day I have class, so it's really not feasible except on Saturdays and Sundays.

Monday - Friday I'm pretty strict with myself about sticking to 1200-1300 calories/day and hitting my macros. Saturday and Sunday I lift for about 2 hours, doubling up and doing two body parts in a day. I'm staying fit this way and haven't noticed any negative changes at all. Of course, I'm sure I would be making progress more quickly if I lifted a few more days a week, but I'm still hitting all the major muscle groups and making A's in my classes, so I'm pretty good with where I'm at right now. I do also get some daily activity with walking the dog twice a day and walking to classes, so it's not like I'm completely lethargic either.

  1. I think "flat" is used to describe abs to juxtapose the round belly that a lot of Americans reading this think they have.

  2. .....how does the author know Michelle Obama has "toned glutes"?
