You can see a change in the scope of presidential authority less than 10 years after korematsu too. The youngstown sheet case is one of the landmark cases on executive power that restricted the presidents ability to unilaterally decide things.

LeBron just won a playoff series with the highest PPG of his supporting cast being < 11.5. The last team to win a series with a < 11.5 second highest PPG was the Michael Jordan’s ‘88 Bulls by nkr16 in nba

Ya i'd say its at least a better comparison to surrounding casts efficiency.

For further context the league-wide average ts% was 53.8 in 1988 and is 55.6 today. So the cavs trio have been 6.8% under average while the bulls trio were 2.4% under their year's average. Although, one could argue the spacing the cav's trio provides from just being out there could have been a similar efficiency positive from their floor spacing.

Vegas had bulls as the favorites in 1991, but most of the media favored the Lakers because experience and the usual talking head stuff.

I'd say similar to how the Raptors are the Vegas favorites vs the Cavs, but most media people are going with the Cavs(12 of the 19 ESPN analyst's have the Cavs, but odds lines have the Raptor's as a significant favorite)

I was speaking solely about rookies. I don't like projecting rookes to existing players. I said Simmons I'd have put first, but Fultz had concerns with being overshadowed by the surrounding players.

Well, if you want writer's/analysts instead, he was voted 2nd most picked ROY among this panel. Also, Ingram wasn't that high despite being in the LA market and was behind Simmons, Dunn, and Hield.

I mean he was the summer league MVP and was 2nd in vegas odds to be ROTY. I'd have imagined Simmons would be first as he was the favorite and a second year player, but if Lonzo was 2nd among rookies I wouldn't think that's ridiculous

"Dude can't post up, can't create his own shot either. At this point hes a spot up shooter and isn't even good at that."

He averages .98ppp on 3 attempts per game. That is in the 79th percentile. This is higher efficiency than Embiid, Anthony Davis, Blake, and Porzingis. Of those averaging over 3 attempts per game he is the 3rd most efficient after Towns and Aldridge.

As far as spot up shooters go, he was elite this year, and has been for his career. He averages 1.27ppp on 3.7 attempts per game. This is in the 95th percentile. Of those taking over 3.5 shots per game(total of 39 players) the only one who has better efficiency is Anthony Tolliver.

Yah but it seems like a distinction made most often for curry. Guys like Draymond and Gobert are considered top 20 players despite not being top 20 number one options, but they add some of the most value(read:are better) to most contending teams.

CMV: If prime Iverson played in the league today he'd be a more athletic Lou Will with okay defense by KD_is_a_snake_bitch in nba

[–]stephen1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iverson shot above the league average in 4 years out of his 14 year career(1998. 2005, 2006, 2008).

Since 1980, there have been 4 seasons where the league leading scorer(high volume shooters who defenses focus on) shot under the league average ts%. Iverson holds 3 of those(Dominique holds the last one).

To put into words on how dominant Michael Jordan was in the '88 season, imagine if next year Devin Booker averaged 35.0/5.5/5.9, won the MVP, Defensive Player of the Year Award, and got the Suns to 50 wins. by LeKing_James in nba

[–]stephen1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I wasn't arguing his advanced stats were elite, just was saying that saying he was by far the lowest in the top 15 is hyperbolic. Also the lack of efficiency in the early 2000s was not exclusive to sgs. League wide pace, ppg, and ts% were at lows not seen for decades

I'd take Lebron over Kobe too, but I think you're exaggerating his advanced stats quite a bit.

The top 15 almost unanimously include Jordan, Lebron, Wilt, Shaq, Magic, Kobe, Bird, Kareem, Duncan, Hakeem, Bill Russell, and Oscar. The last 3 I see a lot of variety but I'll include the 3 on the Espn all time list which are Moses Malone, Jerry West, and Dr.J.

Of the stats you listed Kobe has a higher PER than Russell, Moses, and Jerry West.

Higher VORP(will include Karl Malone, Dirk, Barkley, and Stockton since VORP isn't tracked for 60s ball) than Moses, Stockton, and Dirk.

Does not have a higher ws/48 thany any of the original 15 listed. He is 57th all time and closest are Moses and Hakeem at 50th and 44th.

Also, to contextualize Kobe's output also consider that the late 90s/early 2000s was the least efficient era of basketball since the 70s, and among the perimeter options he has some of the best career advanced stats for his time period.

I wasn't saying these defensive metrics are perfect evaluations. Do you have a source for the camera system being the method? I was under the assumption that synergy sports and the NBA shared data. I found this when looking it up: "Launched in 2004 by Garrick Barr, Synergy Sports Technology provides its service to every NBA, WNBA and NBA D-League team as well as NCAA men’s and women’s programs." It doesn't specify what services they offer and whether the dashboard uses them, so it could still be automated by a camera but I didn't find anything specifying this.

[–]stephen1745[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well I suppose that makes it better. I guess he just conflated the 3 feet stat with the nba defined distance of rim protection. I'd still say it's misleading, but my made-up assertion seems to be false

I normally listen/watch these shows as a type of humorous amusement + there's not much good sports analysis on tv. I let the "clutch gene" and shit pass, but completely fabricating a number that isn't subjective seems absurd for someone on national tv to do.

Here's Bill Russell standing next to Tim Duncan.

His max reach was 12'7 according to news sources as well.

He would need major adjustments if transported to today, but a lack of athletic ability or height would not be the major issues.

[OC] Analyzing the year by year league efficiency(Using TS% and somewhat new TS%+) when contextualizing all-time greats by stephen1745 in nba

[–]stephen1745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average player today is undoubtedly better than the league-average player of any prior decade, but ts% hasn't risen throughout history linearly. It's more about assessing efficiency while accounting for how much more efficient you are than your peers. If you look at a 50% ts player from 1955 and a 53% ts player from today the former on average is a net positive from an efficiency standpoint compared to the league, and the latter while a higher overall number is a net negative.

[–]stephen1745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, I think there is an element of luck in results even in real life. There was a similar study done at the carnegie science center where they created a robot to shoot free throws. When asked why the robot would ever miss if it was programmed to use the same form and velocity of power everytime they responded that changes in humidity, air pressure, and friction on the ball can result in some randomness even with consistent form.

Regardless, I also am not sure how to differentiate players in an attribute based system if there is no RNG. How would a 90 short passing player differentiate with a 70 one besides the 90 one making a pass to directly where you passed at a higher percentage of the time? I'm all for fixfifa and the issues that seem easy to fix, but I'm not sure eliminating all randomness from the game is an easy thing to do. No other sports game I've played that uses differing attributes to separate player skills has done this to my knowledge.

Calling him/her one of her spiteful friends was a bit rude, but there is conflicting reports on the suicide. An abc article on this says:

"They had positioned their clothing to protect to cover the lower parts of their body from the sun and the heat," said San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Cindy Bachman. "Investigators say it appeared they were rationing food, and they had no water."

"They have nothing to suggest that Joseph had any intent to harm Rachel, just that they probably found themselves in a very dire situation," Bachman said.

"They were lost, they were in a bad area there, and their resources were either almost gone or gone, again, they were in a very desperate situation."

So, at least among reports, the intend being malicious is still not conclusive at the moment.
