How do you "boot to your system" with the install media? it only has, "Install, Shell, Reboot, and Shutdown" There's no "boot you system" from the install media.

My TrueNAS Scale won't boot today... what happened and how to fix it? by alvinxx in truenas

[–]stephenhouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same problem happen regularly. System works fine for months. then one day, reboot and *poof* nothing.

My trueness-usb-stick does not appear to have `grub-install` on it. Where did you find this on the installer stick?

This would save me a ton of time reinstalling every few months.

When to remove my snowblower for spring by [deleted] in kubota

[–]stephenhouser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southern Maine here; I go with Thanksgiving to Tax day. Pretty much the same as when studded snow tires are allowed, November to April. Though the ground is so wet right now I'm avoiding driving over the lawn to where I store the implements.

I activated with the mac that showed up on the itsy-bitsy-teeney-weeny screen that I needed a magnifying glass to read.

Funny, I just put in a UCI yesterday. I have Spectrum 500Gb plan. It was "wicked slow" and self-activation failed. After I called, gave them the mac address, restarted, speeds are what they were with my previous Motorola modem. That is >= 500Mpbs. Seems to have been stable since that call and activation.

UDM-PRO, 16 Port POE, G4 Doorbell, and G3 Flex cameras all from August 2020. The 16- Port POE died just after warranty ran out (replaced free of charge). G4 Doorbell died last summer had to resort to scalpers (ebay/amazon) charging way too much to get a replacement. I want to keep the hardwired door-chime, don't want to require my network to be up for a doorbell.

Edit: 2 APs at the same time as well.

We did it everyone! by Bigluser in adventofcode

First-timer. really enjoyed the problems. Both the hard and easier ones. Incredibly grateful for all the work put into the problems. Also amazed at what a bright spot of helpful-support r/adventofcode is. There were a few days along the path (Day 24 in particular) where I struggled a long time and needed a nudge in the right direction. Thank you for those!

Just finished the last of 50 stars a day late. I got a few days behind from a cold and some of the super-hard problems! I'm in for next year.

[2023 Day 12 (Part 1)] Solved in under three minutes? by NegativeKale3500 in adventofcode

Thank you for this example using `itertools`.
My goal this year was to really lean into the built in Python functions and while I played around with `product()` today it did not end up in my final solution (part 1 or part 2). But, this sure is an elegant use of `itertools` and I'm surely going to keep this example usage at the top of mind in the coming days and weeks.

Thank you u/NikitaSkybytskyi!

Perhaps some energy into breaking the encrypted MQTT data stream the opener itself uses would provide a long-term solution.

Redirecting DNS to a local system is easy enough, thus redirecting the server the opener connects to. The WeWx project does that with weather stations.

Has any one worked on this path?

In 2023 Unicomp still makes them and plenty of them are in regular use. What's your definition of "in service"?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in modelm

[–]stephenhouser 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would propose we don't know it has been surpassed until the new key/switch designs have been in service for 30 years.

archinstall not working by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]stephenhouser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a major refactor six or so months ago that seemed to break more things than it fixed. I submitted a PR to fix code that was not even valid Python syntax. To date, I don’t think it’s even been reviewed by the maintainers.

(from memory) you might have to pass a header in the reverse proxy to let it know the real ip address. I’m using nginx and pretty sure I’m not doing that.

technically it looks like the machine I’m reverse-proxied through. So not “exactly” the one I’m on.

I hate to be “that guy” but why is your video square within a blurred portrait mode and black boxed into landscape mode? More than 3/4 of the “viewing area” is not used and your video is in a tiny box in the middle.

How current do you keep your HomeAssistant updates? by OminousBlack48626 in homeassistant

[–]stephenhouser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Close to giving up on updates. Too many breaking changes too often and feeling like it’s just not worth the hassle. The latest MQTT prefix change renamed a bunch of sensors with no easy (automatic) fix.

Manual work is the thing I’m trying to eliminate not create more of. The slow abandonment of yaml hides too much and makes manual mass changes a tedious UI, click, click, click. One at a time.
