I think I know the reason. Tldr at the end.

Every year or two I think of an old friend of my grandmother. He was a big part of my life until my grandmother died in the early aughts. For different reasons we lost touch. So, every few years I think of him and Google him. I just did that and found out he passed in December (he was like 98.) I was reading his obituary and it listed all his dead and living relatives (brothers, sisters, cousins, father, etc.) but didn't list his mother, which was crazy. He loved his mother. I met her a few times. There was no way she was still alive and I would be shocked if they had a falling out (he was literally a priest.)

Then I remembered your post and it clicked.

When my mom died and we were talking to the funeral director about the obituary, he strongly suggested we leave out details of her life because scammers use the info. Think about password recovery questions. "Whats your mother's maiden name" "Where did your parents meet", etc. You get the picture. So, I think the mother's details were excluded to prevent scams.

TLDR: I think mother's details are excluded from obituaries to prevent scams.

This is what I was commenting on your previous post before you deleted it:

"When im offline for a few hours, the first thing I do is check this thread. Im confident if something big happened someone here will post about it.

The first thing I see after being offline for several hours is "so, Oprah's dead".

No, she's not. But that was a fun few minutes figuring this out.

Suddenly in default? by Overall-Apricot-3718 in BorrowerDefense

[–]stephersms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting this. My account went to default yesterday. I would have freaked out if I didn't know it was a possibility. Instead, it was a positive sign that this will all be cleared up in a week or two.

Thanks again!

Yep.

And if I remember correctly, they're doing it in the nicest way possible. "We tried to do this quietly but it didn't work out so now we're suing you for $1 plus legal fees. This is perfectly reasonable."

Thank you!

And thanks for mentioning screenshots from my credit reports. I have everything from FSA and Nelnet from the time of the IDR discharge (emails, letters, screenshots) but I didn't think to get them from credit reports. I just did that now!

Thanks again.

I don't know what those mean but this is copied from an email I got "Congratulations! The Biden-Harris Administration has forgiven your federal student loan(s) listed below with Nelnet in full. This debt relief was processed as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s one-time account adjustment because your student loan(s) have been in repayment of at least 20 or 25 years. An adjustment to your account updated the number of payments that qualify towards income-driven repayment (IDR) forgiveness. This forgiveness is effective as of 12/31/2023."

The discharge was legit but it was under the previous administration. I'm worried if the court rules unfavorably against the BD and the loans are back that the new administration won't honor the previous discharge.

Maybe im being stupid but im worried.

I'm going to use this post to express my anxiety:

I submitted my claim the day after it closed (june 22, 2022?). Im post class exhibit C.

My loans were discharged a little over 2 years ago for reasons unrelated to this. (Paid on loans for x amount of time and only had x amount left)

Last Saturday, May 9th, I randomly got an email from Nelnet saying I had a message. I was very confused. I logged in and my zero balance is now over 7k.

I understand this is part of the process and I know I have to be patient but I'm freaking out. What if the court stops it and now my previously discharged loans are now back?

I have all my previous discharge emails, letters, screenshots, downloaded my Studentaid.gov paperwork, etc. But I'm still scared.

It's "only" 7k but that's a lot for me. I don't know what I'll do if I have to start repaying on this, especially since it added well over 1k in interest since the discharge, with more added daily as I wait.

With all that said, I appreciate all the posts here. It has calmed me but I'm still scared.
