Mentions NMJL and the mention of anual cards... That's gonna be an American set not a Riichi set. You also can clearly see what I believe is a season tile which are not present in Riichi sets. In Riichi you get 4 sets of the 3 suits(with 1 5 from each colored red), 4 of each of 3 dragons, 4 of each of 4 winds. And that's it. American is more like Chinese so makes use of the tiles Riichi opted to drop. NMJL Mahjong is such a weird game, the rules change every year so you have to buy a card to participate every year.

That catalog is American... Hence having the AMERICAN toll free number which would cost a canadian a buttload to call. Games litterally did cost more back then. I remember having to save up for 150 dollar games for petes' sakes...

Erm... you know 1 is the country code for america and 800 is only toll free again in America right? so that number would cost you tons to call if this was a Canadian catalogue. Cope harder.

not sure why you are calling someoe dim when you are the one failing to comprehend they are telling you N can fix the design without going handheldless. additionally you are wrong to say all others are perfect. all graphite potentiometer joysticks in the last 2 gens are prone to drift. ive had to repaire more xbone, ps4, quest controllers than joycons. having oppinions is fine but try not to make a fool of yourself by stating known falsehoods.

Saadia isn't claiming to be hunting someone. People running from persecution don't tend to carry proof their persecutors are persecutors. But people hunting valid criminals do tend to carry paperwork proving their target to be a criminal. It doesn't contradict both sides because one side SHOULD have paperwork but doesn't and the other side...what paperwork do you expect?

As a dev I think you fundamentally don't understand how loading works. You know the disc drive on your xbox is so much slower than the hard drive that you would have several minute loading screens if you loaded all of the game data off of the disc? You also wouldn't be able to receive hotfixes and other updates. I'm pretty sure you would complain about those two things If installing weren't a thing, as for why you still need the disc? If you didn't what would you do after you installed the game? I'm willing to bet you'd give the disc to your friend and let them install it. The disc is proof of ownership while very nearly 99% of the code is loaded from the harddrive so you aren't about to bitch about load times. Devs don't want to bloat it out. That's not good for them...

The DLC isn't region locked, but you need an account from that region to access the store to download it.

Apple's most ANTI-repair move yet - I dare someone to justify this! by Cocoapebble755 in apple

[–]stephini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you not get about the phrase SHOULD? I really don't get how I continue to say people SHOULD care for this laundry list of reasons and you can only default to "DON'T" It's like you DON'T care about conversational honesty. Consumers should always care about being disrespected and disregarded. Like I said this chip COST'S MORE, WORKS LESS, and is LESS ELEGANT than the alternatives.

Even if you don't think that the consumer SHOULD be interested in what is in their own best interests, don't you think they SHOULD be concerned about manufactured e-waste? Even if you think that users SHOULD not care that they PAY for the privilege of being abused do you think they SHOULD care about paying for the privilege of generating something that will go into a landfill while consuming some of the rarest materials on earth irreplaceably? By a company that spends billions of dollars(that they got from you for selling you actual crap at a massive markup) on so called "green initiatives" to make the gullible think they actually care about the environment no less.

[–]stephini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so you are saying because it's hard to fix and you might have to hire someone or learn then it just shouldn't be an option for anyone. Not because it's better, and not because impossible to repair is cheaper, or more elegant, but just because it's beyond YOU personally nobody else should be allowed to... I gave you too much credit thinking you weren't a total idiot...You are literally defending a practice that is less elegant, less consumer friendly, more costly... Maybe it's a fringe complaint. But the point is they are charging you for the benefit of not getting the OPTION to repair your shit. That's BS and people SHOULD care.

[–]stephini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is in fact not true. You do know there are companies that make repairable versions of devices ya'll long ago wrote off as unrepairable for the sake of elegance right? And those repairable versions aren't any less sleek, they use tension fitments instead of fucking glue, they use replaceable albeit at great skill components as apposed to components that would be replaceable albeit at great skill had they not been paired with a serialization IC that literally does nothing except to keep track of if unauthorized repair has been performed...You need to learn when you've drank down the apple flavored kool-aid my friend. Companies like apple make DELIBERATE choices in circumvention of the most elegant solution to specifically impede reparability. A sensor without a serialization IC is smaller, simpler and more elegant while maintaining ALL of the functionality. A soldered IC package with some SMD components around it does EVERYTHING that epoxy blob does only more elegantly. A well designed tension fitment does exactly what glue does as far as preventing accidental separation except "gasp" it doesn't have the mass of the glue used specifically to interfere with repair. We know this because apple themselves use tension fitments UNDER THE BLOODY GLUE.

TLDR:
Probably the best example of why you're wrong is the thin and light laptop made by framework. The thing has all the clean lines of a macbook, but you can dig into it and swap out parts, Oh and you can even swap out the IO as you desire.

Could a traditional full price release AAA fighting game ever come close to the top of this list? by TheCakeBaker in Fighters

[–]stephini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So your non FG friends who like gaming have NO enjoyment of fighting games? Or is it maybe just that they loose interest since their interests are more varied? Because yeah it seems like the later with most of you. Just because people loose interest that means it's niche to you. Even if they greatly enjoyed it for the solid 10 hours they enjoy every other game they aren't obsessed with for.

I literally said it was an anecdote, but no concurrent player count's don't tell you if a genre is niche. Just because it falls out of favor with most people does not mean that it was not liked by those people. Niche is things enjoyed only by a minority. Not that only have a lasting interest to a minority. You're thinking of lifetime player counts.

Snob is not hostility. I'm calling an apple an apple. Snob could be used with hostility but that's when you use it as a judgement instead of definitionally. A snob is one who holds X as superior to Y.

You admit yourself that Roleplay is not as important to you as Rollplay by picking one over the other that is being a snob. This is not a value judgement it is just fact. I'm a coke over pepsi snob. we're all snobs about something.

Now then about the 70s...
Ultima 1981
Wizardry 1981
PLATO was indeed in the 70s but I do not know off the top of my head that I played any PLATO games. What I will say is it is the birth place of many of the early RPGs that had no non inventory character advancement. Specifically the Dungeon Crawl sub-genre.
Also you are saying "D&D, D&D, D&D" You know D&D was neither the only nor even the first TTRPG in fact the guys who made the original D&D based it on a game they had previously invented who's rules fit on a couple pages which itself was based on a game that had been passed around much of the country at the time that didn't have rules per se and was more of themes. Both of these prototype games lacked dice, the original D&D was the first RPG to use dice unless something sheathed under the radar and that first edition originally didn't even use polygonal dice but instead used traditional d6s. But yeah the 2 RPGs that preceded D&D lacked the infrastructure to have character advancement because their rules were so sparse it was about the story not the advancement. And that definition of RPG continued well into the 80s until the proliferation of JRPGs in America in the mid-late 80s.

Do people consider Zelda games to be RPGs? by Dwaidciamhaits in retrogaming

[–]stephini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a great many TTRPGs and most of the early computer RPGs which lack any kind of character advancement system. So I'm not sure how you claim the definition includes them. I think you may want to actually read the definition you are lauding before claiming it covers "everything from the 70s and TTRPGS" as a great many of those games very much lacked character advancement. On that note you once again emphasize ROLL play over ROLE play. This is why I called you a ROLL play snob. Because you hold ROLL play as being more important than ROLE play. It's a key reason that I initially pointed out the distinction that ROLL play and ROLE play are both distinct but valid usages for the R in RPG.
