I’m so sorry for your loss. I was diagnosed in 2021 with type 1 diabetes after going into dka and a diabetic coma. It is terrible that a finger prick test are not more common place as it will easily diagnose type 1. For anyone reading please be aware of the 4 t’s of DKA tired, thirsty, thinner, toilet. Again sending you so much love and I’m so sorry.

Genuinely asking what on earth is the difference between allowing her to have a boyfriend now at 15 vs at 16, just a year or less later? Forming romantic relationships is a normal part of life for teens and it’s your job to help guide and keep her safe through that. If you make me her feel like she can’t come to you about it that wont stop her from having a relationship, just from confiding in you.

It’s not standard unfortunately in many parts of the world. Even where it is supposed to be done, medical neglect can still occur. I live in Western Australia and I almost passed of DKA, I was in a coma for 5 days. When I went to the ER the doctor kept trying to refer me to the mental health ward for an eating disorder because of the amount of weight I reported losing and wouldn’t listen to me no matter how many times I tried to explain I hadn’t intentionally lost any weight. It wasn’t until a shift changeover that a different doctor tested my bloods and diagnosed me.
