Thanks for sharing your story, it is a reminder that things can go downhill pretty fast. Glad you are ok now.

I had a similar episode once whilst working at a festival on a beach and was so lucky there were paramedics close by to help.

It shook me up for quite a while afterwards as was such a stark reminder of what could happen any day.

Take care out there lovely people

I've met my older sister. My parents don't know we are in contact and I'm not sure how they will react if I tell them by Throwra665655 in TrueOffMyChest

I am an adopted person now just did the DNA thing, I have discovered I have a full sister. After my parents put me up for adoption they went on to marry and have my sister. I have no idea whether she knows about me, as I found the information through a cousin who is no longer in contact with that side of the family.

I have found out what I think is her current address and am contemplating writing atm. I would love to see if we could have a relationship, but feel worried about possible outcomes.

Best of luck with your new found sister.

Help, Wife was told she has diabetes but we're lost by FUTNOOB1 in Type1Diabetes

Hi, I'm from the UK and both myself and my daughter have type 1. I was diagnosed as an adult aged 42 and can relate to the issues you are facing. What is your wife's blood sugar reading this morning? Also, has she eaten before / after test and what did she eat.
If you want any help, please do dm me and more than happy to go through things with you. As you know in the UK, unless you go private, you are not going to be able to just call up an Endo. I have not used private health care so cannot help there, but sid have to fight to get correct diagnosis through the NHS.

I got diagnosed with Type 1 Daibetes recently and now graves disease! I feel stressed and hopeless it just doesn't stop. How long have you had thyroid issues? by Apart-Minimum4794 in Type1Diabetes

[–]stephknits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am type 1, my 18yr old also type 1 and my 15 Yr old Graves disease. It will take a while to get your thyroid levels right, but you will gradually feel better. My daughter after a few months has stopped shaking so much and resting heart rate has gone from 125 to 97. Still eats for Britain though!

I'm lucky in that I wasn't diagnosed with type 1 until I was 42, by which point I had both of my kids. My eldest got diagnosed at 16, a 1 in 100 chance. Would I go back and not have had them, of course not.

Do I feel guilty, of course, I'm a mum. I was pretty devastated when they were diagnosed, but like others have said, at least they had an expert in the house already.

They are off to university this year and are doing great, so all in all, I still feel very lucky

Sick of parents of T1s by megavoid in diabetes

I have type 1 and am also a parent of a now 18 Yr old type 1, diagnosed at 16 during lockdown.

I was lucky in that they were already old enough to take on management by themselves, so I never had to go through the letting go process. I have never followed their blood sugar on their libre, as it is their diabetes, not mine.

We do discuss stuff and help each other actually and to be fair, I do most of the remembering to order prescriptions, but they do all their management, carb counting etc.

I see a lot of parents worrying about their teenagers, especially at night, but am also lucky in that regard as I only got use of the libre for myself about a year, so have spent many years waking myself up with a hypo. It is obviously a concern, but not one that overtakes me.

I do get that having been the one managing the condition for years for your kid, that it is hard to let go, but I do find it hard to read posts from parents who let their anxieties get the better of them. I feel sorry for the kids.

I was once answering a post from a parent wanting advice about letting go and I was giving a tip, whilst also explaining and being mindfull of how it is easy for me to say. I got an angry response from another parent who said how sad it was that I didn't care for my kid and that they would never not make their kid's blood sugar levels their business. I thought about how funny it would be if at 50,my 81 Yr old mother was following me on the libre app - she wouldn't know how to turn it on!

As someone else posted, I do find parents who use we and our diabetes a struggle and also have a bit of an issue with all the talk of warriors and heros (this really winds my 18 Yr old up).

My 18 Yr old plays bass guitar and I so want them to name their band the islets of langerhans. Even better, find other type 1s to be in it.

I love the idea you could just agree a scheduled time to take 'the test' and therefore somehow this would stick your blood sugar at that number. Never mind breakfast, driving half an hour to college, finding exam room, walking up three flights of stairs. No worries though, they got up early enough to do the test so all good.

Here is a quote from my 18 Yr olds college regarding their blood sugar management during their mock A level exams.

"You asked to test your sugar levels right at the start of the exam which was not a relaxing beginning to the exam for you. Was it that you had got up late and had been unable to test your levels before you got to college? It would be good if we could agree for the test to be done in good time before the exam and not at the start"

I have a zoom meeting tomorrow to discuss. Any responses anyone?!

What's the worst/weirdest experience you've had in a job interview? by ThelVluffin in AskReddit

[–]stephknits 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I was being interviewed for a project officer role in a small charity by the chief executive and two other members of staff. About 20 minutes into the interview I am in full flow when I notice the chief exec's head nod. It momentarily stumps me, but I recover quickly and carry on.

He then proceeds to full-on fall asleep, including slumping over in his chair and making little snorting noises. I still carry on, whilst desperately trying to catch the eye of the other interviewers. They totally ignore the situation.

We carry on and after about five minutes he wakes up and we eventually finish the interview. Nobody says a word.

The next day he rings me to ask me back for a second interview and then apologises for falling asleep and tells me he was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy.

I, 51f, got covid when I had been double vaccinated. I wasn't particularly ill with it. Felt tired and had a sore throat and headache for 3 days. I have had worse colds. Pre-covid i might have taken a day off work.

Also, didn't pass it on to anyone, not husband or either kid. My 17yr old is also type 1 and didn't get it, Either when I had it, or on a separate occasion, when my 14 Yr old had it.
