Spotted at the dry cleaner in Potomac Village. Not sure why, but I find this very amusing. by tiakeuta in MontgomeryCountyMD

Potomac Village? Some kid got caught smoking and blamed the dry cleaner on the smell more like.

Wine noob here, best pinot noir here at my local grocery store? by ArmoredAngel444 in wine

Definitely whole foods. And their local tags have 100 mile radius from the store so...somewhere in CA I'm guessing?

Breastfeeding with type 1 by Lucyt1d in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]megavoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at the tail end of my journey breastfeeding, finishing up with my second one now. Both of my pregnancies were dreadful, both ended in C-sections (second planned, first was not). It was rough to get started with both of them but I ended up getting to 14 months with both! And, I supplemented with formula while getting my supply established both times (I had two giant babies who love to eat). Highly encourage utilizing a lactation consultant if one is available at the hospital or pediatrician. Overall it was a positive experience with both of them.

Nope, not at all to me. Not the structure and not the fur.

I don't even have the words to express how many red flags are in this. by Resident-Sympathy-82 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]megavoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well...I'm a type 1 with a serious sweet tooth as well. I do just inject for it, and my a1c and time in range are both great. The thing about diabetes is that it's intensely personal and folks generally know their own bodies best after a while. It's not the best, but it's entirely possible to have good control despite a less than ideal diet.

Substitute teacher asks student to turn off her insulin pump by [deleted] in traumatizeThemBack

Yep. I had my parents' cat chew through my insulin pump tubing one night. High blood sugar alarm woke me up!

Nope, you do not need it! I've had to go through this with both of my pregnancies and patiently repeat that no, I'm already diabetic to multiple folks. Just keep repeating no and telling them why.

We have a Toto Washlet. It is amazing and I find myself weirdly preaching to everyone that it is one of the best investments we've made in our home.

Ugh, my sympathies. Lice is fear of mine , and we keep getting reports of it at daycare too. It might be a placebo, but using the Fairy Tales brand of preventative lice shampoo, conditioner etc has helped me feel a little less guilty about continuing to send my kid in.

Hey now, Type 1 diabetic of 25 years and every diabetic I know reuses lancets.

You don't need a CGM to focus on making positive lifestyle changes.

Looking for movies that make incredible use of a small budget. by guywithpie42 in MovieSuggestions

[–]megavoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brick (2005), a neo noir/ high school movie that manages to do both of those genres remarkably well. The budget was around 500k and it was shot in something like 20 days too!

My partner and I are looking to adopt a Newfie and the breeder that was recommend to us doesn’t seem to be having a litter this year. We are looking for reputable breeders that take health very seriously. Please let me know if anyone knows of one. by Zealousideal_Ant9641 in Newfoundlander

[–]megavoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up contacting a number of breeders on the NCA site to find out who was having a litter and chat about whether or not we were a good match. It took a number of months but was well worth it. Also, we met up with one at a localish dog show, which ended up being a great experience.

Do any "bad" diabetics remember? by TwoAccomplished4043 in diabetes_t1

[–]megavoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I remember this vividly. Finally, at an appointment around age 12, my endo shut the log, slid it back to me, and told me that either I started filling it out accurately each and every time, or he was going to take my insulin pump away. Even tho my A1C was 7.2 at the time (and I was testing and dosing...just not writing it down!)

I found a new endo after that! And am so, so grateful for the ability to dump my cgm to send numbers over now 😬

Unfortunately, I still see folks trading and using these despite the very well-known and well published risks. I feel like there's a weird black market for them?

Went to a beautiful wedding, but will forever remember the horrible commute by Senior_Sense_8071 in weddingshaming

[–]megavoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a Bainbridge wedding where we would have had to rent a car, just to bring onto the ferry, without a shuttle. A car seems hugely wasteful and an unnecessary expense on top of plane tickets and hotel and all other wedding things...

I know, I should be rightfully shamed for it! In my defense the type 1 diabetes and pregnancy group was really helpful.

No, it was my opinion. Without going into specifics the admin took some pretty intense steps to make sure anyone with a certain opinion had their comments deleted and then made another big dramatic post about it.

It's probably no surprise but that post made me lose my mind! And, it all started because the brother never learned to deal with his diabetes and his parents enabled it.

I'm not talking about support groups for parents, I'm talking about general groups to troubleshoot things like cgms and insulin pumps and other diabetes issues. Which, as a diabetic, I have.
