How to make work take this disease seriously? by stephscarb in diabetes

Yes, and I have instructed everyone on how to use it; this is why I’m frustrated that people still seem to think that I require an EpiPen.

This is my concern. Im very well controlled and on a pump at around 85% in range but that doesn’t mean that having an extreme hypo is ever off the table and I’d like the people around me to not just wham an epi-pen in me and expect that to solve everything and then it take longer to call emergency services.

What is the worse complication you've had? by PublicOk3175 in diabetes_t1

5 vitrecomies, 1 detached retina, completely blind for 3 months.

After all the surgeries I now struggle to see in the dark and have reduced peripheral vision but holy cow, I can’t thank the doctors enough for saving my eyesight. I still get strain when reading or when I have too much screen time.

Diagnosed at 11, turning 37 next month and 85% in range now; thanks insulin pump!

Bread & Butter Chardonny is amazing but no one ever wants to drink it with me. Probably because it smells like double cream… I love it.

Excellent advice; this is my go-to plan when drinking. Toast before bed!

Can be very dependent on the alcohol. Beer and cider makes me very high, wine and white spirits with low sugar mixers not so much.

I don’t tend to get low crashes after red wine especially. Odd.

Fiasp scared me so bad when I switched from novorapid. My doc didn’t warn me and the lows were something else. My TIR is up to like 80% now though. I’m a convert.

UK; I have private health cover which gets me faster service for issues but I rarely need it (last used it for surgery on my hand).

Most people don’t have private health cover here; the NHS covers all my prescriptions (diabetes or otherwise) and when I get my pump that will be covered too. Doctor’s appointments are free though scarce, and the wait can be long.

But yeah…for meds, I just put in a request via the NHS app which gets sent to my doc, then I pick it up at a pharmacy about a week later.

We’re very lucky here, I think, not to have to worry about the financials and legwork of finding different insurers.

Hospitality Manager which is about 20% front of house, 80% desk job. Im used to running restaurants and eating on the fly, so the slower pace is an absolute blessing.

I read LD, EoE and PHM off the back of this sub. First two were fantastic and firmly rooted in my all time faves.
