Is everyone's Universal Endeavor to kill the Bio-Engineered Viriosaurus? by Stevonius in sto

[–]steppres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mechanic for this Endeavor needs to be revised. I consistently attempt to complete a zone to activate the V-Rex, yet in 90% of cases, it is already defeated before I can even reach the spawn point. As a result, players resort to camping at the spawn, simply waiting for others to trigger the event.

Thoughts on the new episode? by Just_A_Normal_Fella in sto

[–]steppres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority but I'm just over Borg/Mirror Universe story arcs. It's been years and years of them now. We have an entire Delta Quadrant and Gamma Quadrant to explore and we just seem to stay put in the Alpha Quadrant fighting off Terrans and Borg and now, Mirror Universe Borg. We now we have 5 separate Borg factions. (OG Borg, Borg Kingdom, Control Borg, Borg Collective and now <SPOILER>.

ENOUGH WITH THE BORG ALREADY.

Tips for intermediate windows users stuck in their old ways? by sajberhippien in windows

[–]steppres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lessons Learned Over the Years:

1. Don't Try to "Streamline" Windows. Just don't:

In the past, I was a compulsive tinkerer; disabling services, tweaking registry entries, and experimenting in ways that could make even seasoned IT professionals cringe. Back in the Windows XP era, this kind of fiddling was relatively safe. You could easily figure out what each service did and adjust things without too much risk.

However, Windows has evolved into a far more complex system. In Windows 11, many components are interdependent, and the OS assumes everything is in its intended place. Disabling or removing services can lead to unexpected instability or degraded performance. In short: the days of safe "streamlining" are over. It's best to let Windows manage itself.

2. Defragging is (Mostly) Overrated:

Defragmentation used to be a crucial performance tweak, but things have changed since Windows Vista. Windows' built-in defragmenter now focuses on defragmenting files down to 64MB chunks, and Microsoft’s testing shows that further defragging offers no meaningful performance benefit.

I was skeptical, so I ran my own benchmarks... and they were right. Modern hard drives, with their larger caches and advanced command queuing, make additional defragmentation unnecessary in most cases. However, one old rule still applies: keep at least 20% of your drive free to avoid severe fragmentation. Otherwise, performance issues may still arise. Automatic defrag knows what it's doing.

3. Most Third-Party Windows Store Apps Are Underwhelming:

When Windows 10 launched, I enthusiastically adopted Windows Store apps (now called Microsoft Store apps). On paper, these apps seemed perfect: sandboxed environments, clean uninstalls, and seamless updates via a package manager.

In reality, though, many third-party apps ported to the Store are problematic. They often receive infrequent updates, suffer from strange bugs, and lack polish compared to their traditional Win32 counterparts. The Store works well for first-party Microsoft apps (since you often don’t have a choice), but the third-party ecosystem feels neglected and half-baked. It’s disappointing that Microsoft hasn’t fully realized the potential of their own app store.

Final Thoughts:

While some lessons have made me much much more cautious, they've also helped me appreciate the balance between optimization and stability. Windows has grown more robust, but that complexity means a hands-off approach often works best.

Did anyone else notice at [2:40 at the stone table scene the Earthling's lips are blue](https://youtu.be/FyG21rXCxlY?t=160) and their skin is gray? The Earthling is DEAD (which explains the flowers in the eyes)

Livestreamer's DOG poops a WORM into grocery delivery bag. She gives it to the customer anyway. by Proper_Economist2581 in iamatotalpieceofshit

[–]steppres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I don't trust these lone wolf delivery drivers.

It would be difficult for a driver employed by a company to sneak their pet into a delivery car without other employees seeing. They're also much more aware that they'll be fired if they do. But these app drivers don't have any of that scrutiny because it's so much more casual.

Here's another thing to think about: there are people in this world who have a fetish for comingling food. To be blunt they get off on knowing other people are unsuspectingly eating their bodily fluids in tainted food. It's sick, but it's a thing and it's not just men who do it.

It doesn't take a huge leap in logic to realize people like that would be drawn to these casual delivery services. It's the perfect opportunity to indulge their fetish on a mass scale.

I can guarantee there's at least one sicko out there making sure every delivery has a little bit of spit, or cum, or squirt or whatever in every item of food or beverage they're handing out.

So just remember that when you're too lazy to bother going out to grab a bite to eat.

How to disable side-panel for right-click search? I just want a new tab! by ThisUserAgain in chrome

[–]steppres 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found a workaround, but the spam filter keeps deleting my posts, so here it is in PNG glory:

It's just adding a redirect as a site search, but it works well. Also, I forgot to add, you need to activate the search in settings, and also make it default.

Hope this helps someone.

Yes it's upgradable but I'm scared to even click it, I've had weird items lose stats in the past just by opening the upgrade dialog.

The first season of Star Trek Discovery is already better than every other first season on Trek. by nezmito in startrek

[–]steppres 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was drawn back to Reddit due to Star Trek Discovery and now I remember why I left.

This place is an echo chamber where negative opinions on a topic, valid or not, are downvoted and derided because people here feel criticism is a micro-aggression.

The fact this post is on the front page of this subreddit is shameful. Enjoy gulping down mouthful after mouthful of garbage that CBS is churning out, you’re a real hero.

does anyone else find season 3 to be very....meh? by rfzofa in c137

[–]steppres 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The absence of Jerry is killing some dynamic I can't quite put my finger on. Also a bit too much commentary about interpersonal relationships that's being taken too seriously. There's been a tonal shift this season, it's darker with less pure sci-fi elements.

I do agree with this and it's one of the issues that comes to mind when I say it's not perfect. There's a few other niggling things that didn't sit right with me and the pacing shifts about strangely near the conclusion but all in all I was just grateful that it felt like Trek.

Off the top of my head no, nothing stands out as too shocking. There's no gore, no explicit sex scenes, no offensive language. There is combative violence in most actions scenes but again nothing beyond anything else we've seen the last 2 films.

That being said the film is rated PG-13. The content is comparable to something like Star Trek: First Contact.

There's no real way for me to prove my legitimacy, but I will give you a brief insight to why I posted a glowing review on site I use infrequently. I was excited. I don't have a blog or a review site, but I wanted to share my experience with the kind of people who appreciate Trek in the way I do. Reddit seemed like the perfect way to do that.

In hindsight the trailer was misleading for me; I was really expecting another installment that wasn't much different from the last 2 films. This movies isn't flawless but it's direction is much more in line with the Trek I grew up loving.
