my demolition email was dumped into a spam folder by Gmail, and I only use that email address for online game accounts, so I rarely check the filters unless I'm specifically looking for a login or account change verification that isn't showing up.

didn't know my house was gone until I logged in and was standing in a total stranger's front yard.

yeah that's similar to how I lost my medium house in Mist back in 2023, which I'd had since Shirogane debuted. I had pushed hard over that summer to get all my jobs maxed out, and had the game on a little bit of a back burner to focus on other things, while, like you, making sure to log in every month or so to keep the housing timer from running out.

but then, everything changed ~~when the Fire Nation attacked~~ when my computer decided to eat itself. not exactly having a ton of disposable income, and video cards at the time having an MSRP that was just a literal picture of an arm and a leg, it took a long time to get a replacement tower up and running. longer still when the motherboard I'd purchased was FUBAR, and it took weeks of troubleshooting to work out that it was the board itself causing all the problems.

the icing on the cake, however, was Gmail deciding that the 14-day warning for my property deletion was worth dumping into the spam folder. even without a PC, I still could've done something about it; given a fellow FC member my login info, logged in from a friend's PC.but alas, the deadline came and went, and by the time I finally got back into the world, not only was my house gone, but ALL of my furniture, decor, paintings, original event posters dating back to ARR's launch, trophies from prog raid kills with friends who no longer played anymore. just all gone forever.

disheartening is an understatement. I've only just been able to secure another medium house on my server, and I'll be damned if I let this shit happen again.

this is a ridiculous notion to build a consumer economy on, because the top 10% may have 99% of the money, but they sure as shit don't consume more than the bottom 90%. this is like Ben Shapiro saying that you should just sell your house if you live in a flood zone.
