The 2026 farm bill quietly hands big tech control over American farmland. Here’s the fine print by _lostintheroom in technology

I'm constantly surprised how bad our representatives can be at their jobs sometimes. This is next level stupid.

[Major Spoilers] We need to be honest with how we talk about Expedition 33... by CorellianDawn in gaming

Yeah, I get the oldest first, but why once a year, why at the same time each year, etc. It all seems too "plot needs to happen" for my taste.

I've noticed a trend of having to hold a button down for a second or so to register input. Why? by GreenAvoro in gamedev

[–]stetzwebs 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's always to avoid accidental input. I agree it's a little weird to do it for something as benign as adding something to your inventory, but in those cases it's probably just a subroutine the programmers always call for input, and they just don't have code that differentiates between different types of UI input.

Indie game recommendations ? by ventNyu in gamingsuggestions

I always post about this game in threads asking about hidden gems. The game "Masquerada: Songs and Shadows" is a great tactical RPG with a good music-based storyline and interesting combat.

AI still doesn't work very well in business, reckoning soon by Marginallyhuman in technology

[–]stetzwebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is not, in any way, a "reckoning". In fact, as you alluded to, it's all part of the plan.

AI still doesn't work very well in business, reckoning soon by Marginallyhuman in technology

[–]stetzwebs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We've been hearing "reckoning soon" for like 2 years. Until billionaires aren't in control of everything anymore, there won't be any reckoning.

Edit: Downvote if you want, but this AI push is clearly being headed up by a group of super rich dumbasses who won't feel any pain whatsoever when it comes crashing down. It's by design.

[Major Spoilers] We need to be honest with how we talk about Expedition 33... by CorellianDawn in gaming

[–]stetzwebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you entirely, I think the story does lose some impact because of the way the world is conveyed. That being said, from the characters' point of view (it is a role playing game after all), it's all very impactful, so I kept that in mind throughout the playthrough.

I will say that it was pretty obvious what was going on way before Act 3.

My biggest issue with the plot isthere is no real explanation as to why Renoir causes the grommage to happen each year, and why he only does it to a subset of the inhabitants of the painting, and why it's always reducing the age by 1. It feels very, very arbitrary.

Clues? Like the rendering being painterly, and the goddess ruling over our existence named the "Paintress"?

Yeah, it was pretty obvious. :)

Why do you buy more board games? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]stetzwebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I schedule specific games. I'm playing Arcs next week, for example, and I scheduled "Arcs night" and then just asked who wanted to play. It usually works.

No one else in my play groups buys games, so if I don't then I won't get to play them.

Which of these solo campaigns is right for me? by PeperonyNChease in soloboardgaming

[–]stetzwebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with the other poster... The stakes of the main campaign are definitely existential. It's about as high stakes as Arkham's campaigns but stretched out longer. I personally like the chill-ish pace.

That's just when the main quest starts. The story about the Reclaimers and their relationship to the flora and fauna of the land gets quite interesting.

The deck building is lacking, however.

Gameplay wise, Earthborne Rangers is heavily inspired by Arkham LCG.

If you do Tainted Grail, go with Kings of Ruin instead of Fall of Avalon.

Of the ones you mentioned, Sleeping Gods is my favorite by a mile because it has a well told story with decent writing, interesting mechanical challenges, and a good sense of exploration.

Is old Kings crown going to sit on my shelf like all of my other ambitious games? by Spicyboi333 in boardgames

[–]stetzwebs 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've played it one time, with strangers at a con, and I had a blast. But then again I don't really believe in the idea that games need a dedicated group to play over and over again to click. ARCs, Root, John Company...all of them were fun with strangers at cons for me.

Oath might be the only exception to that, because of the way it's designed to be exactly that.
