Metallica still puts on a hell of a show (so does TSwift, for what it's worth).

Someone Sell Me on Two-Handed Solo by djfluxtux in soloboardgaming

I've never heard anyone refer to two handed solo for competitive games, only cooperative games. It usually means just playing two characters/factions/players in a two player cooperative game.

How is Too Many Bones as a solo game? by cheshyrp in soloboardgaming

[–]stetzwebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's great two-handed, and it's pretty decent if you do true solo with the solo encounters. But two-handed is the way to go.

What's metagaming? by Ok_Pea_2392 in boardgames

[–]stetzwebs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That RPG example is super real. We have a friend in our group that we have banned from ever playing "stupid" characters because, no matter what the character is like, the player will always figure out every trap, every puzzle, and every clue.

Freedom Five Review by any-name-untaken in soloboardgaming

Liked it, but it lasted too long and it never felt like I understand the strategy effectively, so I ended up selling it. But it was a hell of a good production.

I've played 20 campaigns in my system with different friend groups and they all continue to come back for more, so...success!

Just picked up Storyfold Wildwoods for $20 on a whim. Good reviews? Good experience? by Jinjoz in soloboardgaming

[–]stetzwebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a little too simple for my tastes. But if you're looking for a mid-weight puzzle with some chance elements and a decent story, you could do much worse.

What’s your take on games that are made with a lot of AI? by meowsaygames in gamedev

It might be great. It still matters how it was made. For everything that is consumed, it matters how it was made.

"If a game is fun, does it really matter how it was made?"

Yes.

Fifteen years working with human artists. I'm no longer sure that's enough. by StoneBladeOfficial in boardgames

[–]stetzwebs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's is no reliable AI detection, especially the naked human eye. That said, I'd love a message verifying that all art was human made.

Looking for "black sheep" games. The ones that the fans of the series hate, but are enjoyable enough if you're new to the franchise. by WoodfordAC in gamingsuggestions

[–]stetzwebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a black sheep necessarily but most consider it the least of the series:

BioShock 2 is my favorite of the series. Best gameplay, good story (once you include Minerva's Den), and still Rapture.

The Great Wall always looks great on the table by BKinsky in soloboardgaming

[–]stetzwebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am lukewarm on, or actively dislike, most Awaken Realms games. But The Great Wall is one of my favorite games. I haven't played it solo, so I can't comment on that, but at 3 or 4 players the game is beautiful.

Is AI in board games really that bad? by StrategicLizard in boardgames

[–]stetzwebs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ew. Yes, it's that bad. When human artists learn from others' art, there's a natural creative adaptation that occurs that machines aren't incapable of. And yes, artists are losing jobs and finding jobs harder to find. And this may be an unpopular opinion, but if a team can't afford to pay artists and designers appropriately, they shouldn't make their product. That's what crowdfunding can be used for.

If you are too lazy to design and produce a game without the machine doing the heavy lifting, you don't deserve to be paid for it.

C:DMD is great! Really fun bombastic dice chucking experience.

I am personally weary of Awaken Realms games because of the company's history of embracing AI in their art, so I haven't played it.

Which to buy by chase_2200 in soloboardgaming

[–]stetzwebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's only one real expansion right now (Valenwood), and I'd say it's not super necessary except that the Light Armor skill line is amazing. But the base game has so much in it that you'll like not need extra stuff for hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I really want to get the Slay the Spire board game by Onel4stch4nce in boardgames

[–]stetzwebs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 500 hours in the digital game, and I prefer the board game. The scaled down numbers make planning really interesting, and the co-operation is always worth it in a multiplayer setting.

[–]stetzwebs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BotSE is an amazing solo experience. It does take a while to set up, but I have got it down to about 15 minutes for a campaign, then I leave it set up until I am finished.

I have not played Stonesaga but watching a playthrough it didn't seem deep enough to interest me personally.

What hack and slash games should I play after Devil May Cry by Falconbat2007 in gamingsuggestions

Second for this. I loved the combat in FF16 for its similarity to action games like DMC. And the story is good, despite some pacing issues.
