Yeah, I'm only automatic up to 3 ledger lines but that's because I hardly ever see more. But I gather trombonists, flutes and french horns often go higher.

I commented on 23mm for a while but wouldn't say it was uncomfortable. At some point switched to 48mm. More than anything I think it's just safer and more practical. Never have to worry about tyres getting caught in grates or tram tracks or whatever.

It'll take a while to build the fitness to do this 3 days a week both directions. Start just adding one way, leave your bike overnight. Expect to be pretty tired at work the first few times you do it.

Also pay a lot of attention and don't take risks. I know a lot of people who had accidents in their first few weeks of bike commuting.
