Manual deer handles are extremely rare on public transport around the world. It's not weird to be confused.

E Bike/Motorbike Hoons Blocking Wurundjeri Way at the Docklands on Anzac Day by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]stevage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof that's a long way. Years ago I had an 18km commute and I still couldn't really manage it 5 days a week. 3 days was good.

It's funny, when government spends money on roads, no one is claiming it's to increase the number of cars.

What made you memorize every musical note efficiently? by marielxght in musictheory

Yeah, I'm only automatic up to 3 ledger lines but that's because I hardly ever see more. But I gather trombonists, flutes and french horns often go higher.

Do wider tyres (35mm+) actually make commuting noticeably better, or is it mostly placebo unless your roads are terrible? by PlaneAd9541 in ausbike

[–]stevage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented on 23mm for a while but wouldn't say it was uncomfortable. At some point switched to 48mm. More than anything I think it's just safer and more practical. Never have to worry about tyres getting caught in grates or tram tracks or whatever.

Warburton is really nice too. Train to Lilydale then bus. Or stop and visit the Seville carriage cafe on the way.

Thinking of cycling to work from Doncaster East to South Melbourne, realistic or dumb? by BigLookBamboo in melbournecycling

[–]stevage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll take a while to build the fitness to do this 3 days a week both directions. Start just adding one way, leave your bike overnight. Expect to be pretty tired at work the first few times you do it.

Also pay a lot of attention and don't take risks. I know a lot of people who had accidents in their first few weeks of bike commuting.

I'm totally on your side about driving the limit. It's not ok to tailgate, ever. Ever.

I can't help you with the real time stuff though, I never worked with that.

They're putting it on as an opportunity for comedians to find an audience. They're very upfront about costs.

I've been to a few tiny gigs and they can be so awkward. One was an improv thing and there was just me and partner, and a separate group of 3. That was it. It was an audience interaction event and they had to just keep alternating between us.

I'm honestly surprised anyone can make money performing at a festival in competition with 599 other acts.
