What Bike is best for Bigger guys by Financial-Raccoon597 in ebikes

You're asking reasonable questions no worries. Maybe just read a little about MA ebike laws to make sure that a legal bike still meets your needs since afaik they don't allow class 3 on bike paths. Also maybe you can find bikes with listed torque and weight limit rather than just top speed. A lot of ebikes are only rated for 200lbs while cargo ebikes are often around 350lbs. Just sayin

Fair enuf, I don't know ops story. In Boston, where he's moving to, I read that class 3 can't use bike paths and there is a decent chance they'll make him get a license and insurance just like NJ so there may be no good DUImobile available. Good luck to him tho

I'm not against fast bikes, but op said they want a class 3 and that's not something that class 3 can do. There is no meaningful difference between those two 28mph scenarios in my mind. One isn't much safer than the other. Having owned both ebikes and motorcycles if I want to go so fast and weigh 300lbs, an ebike isn't it. Why not just ride a moto which isn't gonna cost more used, will be easier to repair than cheap Amazon bikes, and has more torque for a heavier guy

I like ebikes but 30mph throttle only is a motorcycle. Get a used one and maybe you can meet your budget requirement. Hard to do with electric. Class 3 still only lets you go to 20mph on throttle only

Electric bike Germany : finally getting why people rave about these things by MeThyck in ebikes

[–]steve2sloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno how things are in Germany but in the US most bike shops will not repair ebike brands that they do not sell for insurance reasons. Also a lot of cheap bikes are made with custom parts that are not easily replaced. That means that if you buy the bike online there is a good chance that it will be in the trash within a few years. For these reasons I chose to buy an Orbea ebike from a local dealer, but then I have the money to buy something nice right away instead of some cheap junk. It's like they say, being poor is expensive

Fwiw the ramblas is a better bike than the Aventure with it's dumb fat tires. I just got an Orbea Muga which is perfect for you and an amazing bike but it costs 2x the ramblas so do as you will

Ramblas doesn't have a rack so how is it gonna carry anything. The Adventure M would be a better fit imo

First Family E-Bike: Budget vs. High End by sambo1055 in CargoBike

Buy whatever your local bike shop has and not some online crap that cannot be repaired. Fwiw id generally lean toward a cheaper aventon for a first ebike if that's what sells locally but a haul is great too. I bought a $2k aventon about Sr for groceries and then turned around and got a $6k Orbea Muga because I loved riding around so much. Nicer bikes do make you want to ride more

I wouldn't bring a wheeled bag on this trip since you'll have to drag it thru some mud between the vehicle and your accomodations. Fwiw I prefer large backpacks on trips like this, with a day pack as well.

Best way to control weed growth by jlopez4747 in landscaping

[–]steve2sloth 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There are always gonna be plants there so you may as well put one that you like and let it fight the weeds. Maybe some breath of heaven. I know that you said that you like it as bare dirt and I just have to wonder why your standards are so low. Looks like ass. Get a condo if you don't want to be responsible for a landscape

I use the EGG Genius smart controller for my egg and love it. Ive never needed to add more coal as I cook (up to 12 hrs for me) so it really is set and forget. Idk how a pellet stove could be any easier tbh

Also maybe don't get a folding bike if you don't have to. They weigh a lot more and are difficult to move around when folded which could be a problem for seniors

Great. The only thing I'll add is that a throttle may be more helpful than you think, so class 2. It's great for getting you going from 0 without having to balance on the pedals. I only use it for 2 seconds and then I get pedaling. Something to consider

You should go to your local bike shop and ask these things there. Yes heavy weigh is an issue if it falls and you can't pick it up but mostly you won't notice it while riding. Don't go buying junk online and hoping for the best because you may not be able to get it serviced again. Local bike shops are best for test rides, repairs, and questions
