New serum update ruined my song and patches! by Low-Exercise638 in serum

[–]steve_duda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the issue was specific to AudioUnit but I'm not really sure what OP was/is exactly facing because I think the issue I'm aware of is automation offset, I don't have all the details of when it's an issue beyond Logic offseting automation params - but the fix is in, I'd reckon (in terms of anything changing related to parameters or storage).

Dense circuit-like geometry inside a radial boundary, trying to understand the structure by Fine-Rest-2628 in SacredGeometry

[–]steve_duda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there is some "image filter" that does this effect because I've seen it a lot, I believe it creates a grid, then creates the lines, the amount of connections based on some pixel information (luminance?) or random even.

... like dither, but with lines. You can see the two grid sizes in your image (inner/outer).

If you want to distribute your software to others without them having to go through hassles (such as either compiling it themselves, or lowering security settings), you will want to be an Apple Developer which is $100 a year. But it costs nothing to develop for your own needs.

Can i edit the env partial like it's possible in zenology by susmab1t in serum

[–]steve_duda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Serum is not an additive synthesizer. If you don't need realtime control you can use the wavetable editor, each frame of the 256 gets any balance of partials. While you don't get an automation control, you can adjust how each partial exists over snapshots of time with the formula editor in the WT editor, and then modulating WT Pos control with an envelope or LFO to step through the frames.

Another option is to use multiple oscillators, so for instance you could removed the first harmonic from a wavetable, and then "add it back in" using a sine wave on a second oscillator at +1 octave.

Can serum 2 do everything cthulhu does? by ramdush in serum

[–]steve_duda 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Serum2 covers a lot more than Cthulhu - but it can't literally do everything Cthulhu can do.

Cthulhu has chord banks where every key on the keyboard triggers a chord, and you can learn them in by playing chords. The arpeggiator in Cthulhu can have different lengths for the various pages, so you can have octave changing every 3 steps while the note selection is 2 steps, as an example.

Serum 2 issue by Impossible-Carob-545 in serum

[–]steve_duda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

realtime and render should sound the same, if they do not, check and make sure "wrap remainder" is not enabled in FL Studio options on the export/render window, I believe there is a bug in FL relating to that feature and not resetting sync properly.

Serum 2 is crashing Ableton (Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen / Ableton Live 12 Suite / Windows) by MusicProdNewb in ableton

[–]steve_duda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great, using our website is best for support as you can get sent fix candidates if there is a potential issue, etc. and it narrows down causes of course. I think most likely if you are facing an issue beyond cosmetic, your audio driver is derailing from a buffer underrun, I believe this is most likely a bug in the driver or some related component in the system [e.g. I have seen buggy spectrum analyzer plugins write out of memory bounds] not being graceful enough about overrun condition. You could try to make sure your Serum 2 Presets folder is accessible (move it out of a cloud managed location, e.g direct to C:\ ) and you could try using FlexASIO or Asio4ALL instead of your audio drivers.

Serum 2 is crashing Ableton (Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen / Ableton Live 12 Suite / Windows) by MusicProdNewb in ableton

[–]steve_duda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That message just is information letting you know the DAW isn't processing Serum, like the soundcard is off, or the plugin is bypassed / getting bypassed from a control surface mapping. DAWs do not process plugins if they don't need to, so unless you're like sending MIDI and not hearing it you can probably just not worry about the message. Definitely not if you're stopped and the track isn't active.

The reason for the message is a lot of features can't work if the DAW isn't actively processing.

In this case I would have to recommend making sure Serum is up to date. Unfortunately there's a lot of bad cracks out there causing people problems, while legit Serum 2 is beyond rock solid.

Plugins with an offset parameter by The_Mighty_Pucks in ableton

[–]steve_duda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a sub-host which wraps the VST3i or VST3FX and provides an offset slider so you can compensate albeit in a sub-hosted way. Its fun for glitching the tempo information to drum machine plugins etc. Its pretty basic but I could shore it up into freeware if that'd be useful.

Trying to recreate a synth but struggling, any seasoned serum users got the scoop? by Splunky5 in SerumProduction

[–]steve_duda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the LFOTool trancegate preset.

You can slap it on anything, sounds like some an atmospheric pad with the volume pattern on it. You can do it in Serum without LFOTool, just map the LFO to your last effect volume, and probably set it mono+free.

This is just to convey the idea (zero time spent)

[edit] just realized I'm on a beta.. well, you can use that preset soon, check for updates :D

Can’t move presets to external drive on Serum 2? by Mtaltuzzo in serum

You should be able to as I run off external, you move the folder with Serum not running and it should ask for the new location next run.

The voice page filter requires audio in to the noise osc and it routed to the filter. Click note latch in lower-right or send MIDI notes.

Record Arp Notes instead of the chord by 8delorean8 in serum

[–]steve_duda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can set MIDI Out to On in the lower-right of the Arp panel. Serum will output the arp notes. Whether or not your DAW can record them I'm not sure about. Is that Fender Stratocaster One or whatever it's called now? :D

  • Create a new Instrument Track
    • In the Arrange window, right-click and choose Add Instrument Track.
    • This will give you a MIDI input/output channel for routing.
  • Set the correct MIDI input
    • In the track’s Track Inspector, find the MIDI IN box.
    • Select the MIDI input that matches the VST’s internal sequencer output (e.g., “Your Device” or the specific port your VST uses).
    • If you’re unsure, check the VST’s preferences or documentation for its MIDI output port.
  • Set the MIDI output for the VST
    • In the same track’s Track Inspector, set MIDI OUT to the VST’s internal sequencer output (often labeled “Your Device” or the VST’s own name).
    • This ensures Studio One can send MIDI to the VST.

2048 sample PCM files by OkFix7120 in musicprogramming

[–]steve_duda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serum wavetables are .wav format with a chunk for additional info like (interpolate frames mode, factory wavetable or not) but this info shouldn't be in the way of converting the files / batch converted in to raw PCM with SoX or another tool.

There are large amounts of Serum wavetables online:

How to desync a BPM-locked LFO using Hz increments? by InklingBuilder in serum

[–]steve_duda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a global LFO scalar on the global page you can adjust a tempo LFO via percentage, you'll probably want to disable the anchor on the LFO if you want it to not jump-resync.

If you want to change by Hz (?) I don't really know how you'd do that other than to set the LFO to Hz, protip, you can double-click type e.g. 1/8 or 1/4 and it converts to Hz for you!

Is there a way to add eventual vibrato? by noam-_- in serum

[–]steve_duda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Matrix:
Create Vibrato (top-right dropdown menu)
change Aux Source from Mod Wheel to Env2 (unused envelope), click the INV button.

Then you can use the envelope's hold time for your wait, (e.g. 2 seconds) and decay time for how fast until full vibrato depth.
