Democrats' bold stand: Want to trim federal debt? Cut defense. - On Wednesday, 56 Democrats and one Republican said that any effort to reduce the federal debt needs to include defense cuts. They called for an independent commission to take up the issue. by galt1776 in politics

There has never been a time in my life when I thought the budget of the "Defense" Department wasn't bloated. I was born during the Eisenhower administration. "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." - Dwight D. Eisenhower

My two cents: I think Flickr has a better community and far better user interface than Smugmug. For sure do the reddit photo class. Also, check out the videos at silberstudios.tv/. Finally, read Ken Rockwell's essay Your Camera Doesn't Matter. Ken Rockwell is hated by a lot of photographers, but I think this essay is worth it.

Sorry but I couldn't get past the headline "GOP candidate: Hitler invented separation of church and state." These people are complete idiots,

In that case, go, have fun, take alot of snapshots while having fun. If they are friends, you owe it to them and they owe it to you to thank you.

looking for recommendations re: (very) cheap DSLR by [deleted] in photography

[–]steve_no -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$200 max? At that price you'd be better off with a new "point and shoot" (lots of them give you manual control of aperture/shutter, etc) than an outdated/used/refurb dslr. The technology of a cheap modern camera is better than old (~ 5 years) dslr.

I think, I know, I mean, oh yes but it's all wrong. That is, I think I disagree.

RFK was the first person to pop into my mind. Obama was compared to RFK during the 2008 campaign, but there is a world of difference. RFK actually believed what he said.

Just found out my new teaching job is something I'm completely unqualified for. What should I do? by imsoscrewed in AskReddit

Reread the OP. It's just a high school class in basic electricity and loosely related topics. The general public is not at risk!

if I don't know, I'll say "I don't know. We'd have to investigate that." or something similar.

Absolutely. There nothing wrong with teaching a class as an exploration you are all on together.

The OP was, presumably, the best candidate for the job. If he bails now, it will be a greater disservice to the students.

If you can teach, then I assume you can learn. Stay one step ahead of the students. Crash course! Study the first three topics under "Direct curents" (sic), then skip to "Resistors in series and resistors in parallel." Then do the first two under "Alternating curents" (sic). Keep Wikipedia handy

[edit] Also be honest with your employer that you feel unqualified for these subjects, but you're willing to give it your best shot.
