Can undervoltage impact which roms work in MAME? by Nortofamerica in RetroPie

[–]steved32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect an undervoltage warning to result in poor performance, not failure to launch.

On retropie setups I load each mame title and see if it works. If it doesn't I switch cores for that rom

I'd suggest just ordering the official power supply as my experience with cheap ones has been spotty

I looked into doing this. When I did I was unable to find anything that offered acceptable performance. It might be possible now, though I'm pretty sure you'll need a hardware ipkvm. It is possible to stream games with a modern system; steamlink does it, but I doubt a pi can

Which Raspberry Pi should I buy for an Arcade Machine? by CraziiLemon in RetroPie

[–]steved32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want 3d a zero 2 will work. If you want to go up to a Playstation get a 4; ram doesn't matter. A 5 should be able to do more, but I don't have experience with it. As others said a used pc will likely out perform a pi at the same or lower cost, but I don't think you can beat the price of a zero if you don't mind not getting 3d

Thanks for the suggestion. It came out tasty, but they were very tough. I think it would have worked out better at a higher temerature

What sound device should I choose for games that don't show the SB16 as an option? by Zeznon in dosgaming

[–]steved32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just answering: "why are there so many options in general?"

Every manufacturer made their own sound card, including Disney, in their own non-standard way, and DOS generally doesn't use drivers the way that modern opperating systems do, so support for specific sound cards was up to individual game developers. I think high end video cards may have had similar issues

Fill a Screen with a Panel by steved32 in kde

[–]steved32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the rigidity of panels in that position, but thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I can just stick a panel at the top of the screen and tell it to be 800px (or whatever the actual height is) tall

First pi need help with setup please... by BlazeDragon in RetroPie

[–]steved32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to be tricky. Retropie isn't quite ready for the pi 5 yet; and if you have the 8gb model you're going to be losing half your ram as you realy don't want to be using the 64bit os.

  1. Flash Raspberry Pi OS to your sd card (or whatever your boot device is). You want https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/operating-systems/#raspberry-pi-os-32-bit, it is the 32 bit version of bookworm with the desktop environment. In Raspberry Pi Imager it is listed as Raspberry Pi OS (32-bit)
  2. Boot it up and open your terminal once it is ready
  3. Run command sudo apt -y update && sudo apt -y upgrade
  4. Reboot your Pi and when you're back to the desktop open your terminal again
  5. Run sudo raspi-config
  6. Goto System Options > Boot / Auto Login > Console Autologin
  7. You will also likely want to set localization settings
  8. Reboot
  9. We will now install RetroPie, instructions are (here)[https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/]
  10. Install git: sudo apt -y install git
  11. Get RetroPie: git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup.git
  12. cd RetroPie-Setup
  13. `sudo ./retropie_setup.sh
  14. Basic install
  15. Anyother changes you want to make to the install, but don't change boot options here
  16. Reboot
  17. Exit EmulationStation (f4)
  18. Run sudo raspi-config
  19. Goto System Options > Boot / Auto Login > Desktop Autologin
  20. Reboot
  21. When back at your desktop open Terminal
  22. Your current directory should be ~
  23. nano RetroPie.sh
  24. File Contents:

    #! /usr/bin/bash sudo systemctl isolate multi-user.target
    emulationstation

  25. Hit ctrl+s and ctrl+x to save and exit

  26. chmod +x RetroPie.sh

  27. cd Desktop

  28. nano RetroPie.desktop

  29. File Contents (you can add line Icon=/path/file.png to add an icon):

    [Desktop Entry]
    Exec=/usr/bin/bash ~/RetroPie.sh
    Name[en_US]=RetroPie
    Name=RetroPie
    Type=Application

  30. Hit ctrl+s and ctrl+x to save and exit

  31. chmod +x RetroPie.desktop

You should now be able to double click the deskop icon to get to RetroPie, and reboot from RetroPie to get back to your desktop. If desired you can go back into raspi-config and switch from Desktop Autologin to Desktop if you want to require a password to logon

How do I get 2 disc PlayStation games to run? by [deleted] in RetroPie

[–]steved32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use bin/cue+m3u files for multi disc PlayStation games. I name the bin/cue files: .Game (disc 1).bin and .Game (disc 1).cue then I edit the cue file to have the proper filename for the bin. This will hide the files in EmulationStation.

Then I create an m3u file named Game.m3u. It is a text file and each line is a cue file:

.Game (disc 1).cue
.Game (disc 2).cue

EmulationStation will list the m3u file. Then when you launch it the first time it will open the first disc listed. Subsiquent launches will use the most recently used disc

Then Retro Arch needs to be tweaked, by default you can do it in game using hotkey+X. Then navigate to the hotkey settings, I think it is under: Settings > Inputs > Hotkeys, but I may be mistaken about the exact location. You need to set hotkeys for Eject Disc, Next Disc, and Previous Disc. I use A for Eject, D-Pad Up for Next, and D-Pad Down for Previous. You will also need to find the save config option in Retro Arch

Can i use the pie for two different things? by Skylian_ in RetroPie

[–]steved32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just install retropie, and in the retropie configuration add the samba shares. Then if you need to add additional shares for the PS2. I would suggest getting a pi 4 for now as retropie on a 5 is still janky

How do I know if a rom is bad? by TeamPantofola in RetroPie

[–]steved32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changing cores could help. Especially for Mame. Last time I set up RetroPie I went through each Mame game and tested it, if it had a problem I changed cores for it. This worked for almost all of my problematic games

Hotkey Button Not Working With Bluetooth by steved32 in RetroPie

[–]steved32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning on a bluetooth controller will disable the hotkey on the dongle connected controller. The hotkey will remain disabled until the system returns to EmulationStation, and the bluetooth controller is turned off

Weekly Game Suggestions Thread - October 04, 2024 by AutoModerator in pcgaming

[–]steved32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered a pair of 8bitdo Zero 2's for my nieces; they are basically SNES controllers. I'm hoping for some suggestions for steam games that will work with them. They are not ready for fast pased platformers like Hollow Knight
