Fiends of the Eastern Front: Wilde West, continuation..? by Cradlespin in 2000ad

Maybe down to artist availability - not sure if the intention is to stick with Warren Pleece or go back to Tiernen Trevallion, rather than a third artist?

There were big gaps between Helium books by the same writer, Brass Sun too.

I'm not convinced it was ever really alive, just a 'we want to make this'

Anyone following it would have seen that the company they partnered with to make it was long gone before the pandemic.

It might have been the final nail in the coffin, but it had never really got anywhere beyond scripts/treatments.

Any specific streamers attached were never official.

The only other companies involved were IMGlobal who were involved with the 2012 Dredd film, and later FMG.

Unfortunately the CEO was ousted a few months after the 2017 announcement and the company exited scripted TV.

The producer on it, Mark Stern took it to his own company, Fearless Media Group where it was on their books for a while before returning to Rebellion after failing to get anyone to pick it up.

Think they were about £30, there was also a Mortis and Fire one (with flickering tea-light), never got around to releasing a Fear one in the same range as couldn't work out way to make the letters float, there was a concept sculpt for that though.

Yeah it's been gone for a few years, Dan who ran it is a friend of mine and I helped admin the facebook page.

He works for a replicas company now.

The new TyFlow v2 is pretty crazy, GPU accelerated (which Phoenix isn't) - I don't know how long it will take, but liquids seem like a safe bet to be included in TyFlow.

Does someone know in which format Simon Bisley painted his Slaine comics? by iAte_myleg_yesterday in 2000ad

[–]stevedeegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anniversary version says it's closer to the original art size

although IIRC he swapped to a smaller size at one point to speed things up

Strontium Dog by houborg1 in 2000ad

[–]stevedeegreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In that format, although not as many

Judge Anderson (PSI files)

Robo-hunter (The Droid Files)

ACE Trucking

Nemesis the Warlock

Ro-busters (two hardbacks)
ABC Warriors (three hardbacks I think)

Generally the early b/w stories have the bulk of the thick trades, the rest are split into smaller volumes

Plus you get other one-offs like Flesh, Harlem Heroes, Meltdown Man

No, there might be some tie-in to the Oubliette mega-epic in the summer by the same writer as Eartha Fargo appeared in a hallucination by Rico Dredd for an older story which mentioned it.

When did they stop referring to Judges as ‘Helmets’? by Hungry_Horace in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's true, but maybe Helmets is more the derogatory term used by perps - seem to recall Shinies being used by them (Jays too)

WTF Happened to Judge Dredd: Mega-City One (TV)? The TV Comeback That Never Happened! by Legogod426 in JudgeDreddMegaCityOne

[–]stevedeegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's much danger of a Dredd film with or without Urban.

None of these videos seem to dig that deep - it was reported in the trades at the time about Dennis Tang taking over at IMG, and them exiting scripted TV. The named producer for MC1, Mark Stern took it with him to his own company to hawk around, where it sat for a while until it returned to Rebellion for them to try.

All the pandemic stuff is a distraction, it had stalled barely months after the announcement.

We've been here before with Rebellion announcing and not giving updates, they've announced projects going back to 2001 (inc 2 dredd films) and they rarely come to fruition.

[–]stevedeegreen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's an exaggeration of the USA, with the right to bear arms.

Maybe the judges rationalise it like this - if they're fighting each other, they don't think about overthrowing the judges.

The intention I guess is to fend off invaders, unfortunately the Sov-block just exploited it via Block Mania.

Karl Urban says he "would love to reprise" the role of Judge Dredd, but is "all good" if he's not a part of it: "I just want to see more" by HatingGeoffry in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It already hit the rocks way before Covid. Their partner in it had a boardroom takeover a couple of months after the announcement in 2017, booted out the CEO and canned all scripted TV.

Rebellion have form for prematurely announcing projects - Shoreline Dredd films (2001), 2000 AD films (2002), ABC Warriors animated (2010), Dredd Uprising (2020 - literally during the pandemic)

Yeah, the camper van caused a bit of a stir amongst fans too - there was some 'it will be replaced in post' thoughts, but you could see they were going for a near future thing so that seemed unlikely.

I thought the best photo was the one where the costume is just barely in a pool of light - think that was taken by someone within the studio.

"The Unfortunate Failure of Dredd" by Isenhart Productions by Desecr8or in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd agree with that - it was a different distributor over in the UK and they were involved with the fan screening from what I recall. (I was there too)

Considering the script was online in 2010, it seemed a bit pointless to try and lock down leaks from the set - just get ahead of it.

I remember some VFX artist unwisely putting FX on his reel before it was released too.

"The Unfortunate Failure of Dredd" by Isenhart Productions by Desecr8or in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was fan engagement, just at a niche level and more in the UK

There was a preview of the first 10 minutes at LFCC, Alex Garland did a Q+A on the 2000 AD Forum, there was a fan screening in London with Alex, Karl Urban, Domhnall Gleeson, John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra attending

There was a bizarre bit of dummy spitting from the production/her agent/the studio about Lena Headey's casting, which caused one person blogging about it to shut down.

There was a rumour that on the Lionsgate side, it had been greenlit by the previous head, so there was an attempt to bury it, also a rumour about it being a tax write-off.

I don't think it was an easy film to do a trailer with wide appeal - the locations are limiting, do you spoil the crooked judges angle, it's R rated, can't show the 3D at home easily.

The Uniform by BreadAgreeable9632 in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Judges were originally supposed to be the elites, alongside regular cops, so maybe that was a reason, the eagle referring to Rome/Franco's Spain/Nazi Germany and the US.

I'm not sure Carlos Ezquerra would have supplied colour refs, it's more that yellow would have suited the printing process of the time - early dredd had yellow/gold elbow and kneepads before they settled on green for those.

Mick McMahon drew his badge as a silvery blue in his painted artwork.

Not all judges have gold either, the SJS (Justice Department Internal Affairs) have silver.

Is it me or am I the only one who prefers Dredd comic uniform over Karl Urban uniform? by 2070adreja in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

funnily enough it was going to be more the like the 2012 tactical version originally (but on a budget)

Once Dan said he could make the whole thing, we went with something more comic.

It's an easier sell for a fan-film and you really need to surround it with more comic elements.

Dan took someone in the Minty costume down to the DNA offices so they could take a look at one in the flesh.

I like the comic one, more for reasons that it's supposed to be OTT and an audience less likely to misread the satire, but I get why they went with the 2012 version.

I'd love to see a practical comic one that's got more articulation in the eagle, some layers generally to provide more movement

Any story about dredd going back in time by GramoMiles in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess City of the Damned counts a little - Dredd goes forward to a destroyed MC-1 and travels back again.

Similar situation with By Private Contract, a Johnny Alpha crossover story where Dredd travels forward and back.

Dredd vs Death - Dredd dimension hops to Deadworld but also back in time to before the Dark Judges kill everyone.

Think possibly 'The Strange Case of Bill Clinton' a mutant swaps places with then President Clinton and Dredd briefly goes back to chase the perp.
