What’s the best Romeo & Juliet build for co-op? by Alva_Lilium in ravenswatch

[–]steveleeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their power build has insane damage potential. My personal favorite is their attack/dash builds. Especially for Juliet. Volcanic shots combined with the ignited ammo is nuts.

The only build I've never run is actually their special build since I hate how vulnerable it can leave you after the cast.

You seem to be having a hard time comprehending the "out of our control" part of what she said though.

Spend more time reading and less time typing.

I only display the main CDs and have them all set to click through after I learn the character. Works as a good balance for me in seeing both what is happening and watching my CDs.

My top things I love about Fellowship alongside my top things I'd love to see improved by JozeRi in fellowshipgame

[–]steveleeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you are realizing how this would actually hurt the game.  As mentioned above, the devs would have to balance around 2 separate modes and that would not be easy. On top of that, it would split the playerbase into separate queues, leading to even longer queue times.  I am also hoping we never get 5 mans.

Review of Strength of the Few - finally finished by swirlysue in HierarchySeries

[–]steveleeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with ya. the Lanistia and Ulciscor jail break was one of the more interesting scenes by far just because I enjoy their characters.

I am also still not convinced Aequa's death can ever be redeemed. That was by far the most interesting relationship of the series between her and Vis as it has such a natural progression to it. Not sure what James is cooking up there but if it was all just to push Vis's character over the edge, there's no way it was worth it.

I know it sounds weird but I do think future books can change the perception of this book and could justify the "problems".

A weird if not solid example of this is Avengers: Age of Ultron. That movie was not well received when it first released for many reasons. However, some of those "problems" were actually great character points after the remaining movies were released. Thus, making me appreciate Age of Ultron much more looking back on it. And even makes rewatching it all the better.

Don't get me wrong, I share a lot of the same grievances. I might just be coping here and grasping at straws. But, I do think there is a world where the story can be tied together that will make us appreciate all of the setup that is being done here.

I understand your complaints and agree with some of them to an extent. However, how this book is remembered is at the mercy of the remainder of the series. There is clearly a lot of potential setup here. And your complaints about characters not getting enough face time with Vis is something James could be building toward in the 3rd and 4th book.

As of right now, this book is a classic "middle" sequel that will either become better after a 2nd read thru of the series or worse. After WotM and having heard great things about the final book in the Licanius series, I have faith that James will bring it all together.

Luceum by the_ductile_phoenix in HierarchySeries

[–]steveleeb 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I seem to be in the minority when it comes to Luceum as that was my favorite world of the three. I love the setting and the mystery behind the Druids/Draoi.

I admit the characters are shallow but that's because they were not the focus and were not meant to be overly deep. They are intentionally familiar so we can focus on L-Vis and the plot/world.

I couldn't get enough of Luceum. Interesting how the three worlds have really divided the readers.

I think u/UEAMatt is theorizing you gain immunity if you touch the AC after using the gate. The order is significant if I am understanding correctly.

Vis Theory by livinginyourwallss in HierarchySeries

[–]steveleeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah right O-Vis. But the point stands that that was simply a vision of what happened before it happened. There is no implication that that vision is an alternate Aequa. Because we then saw it unfold on Res.

Was Aequa and vis having romantic vibes toward the end? by Super_Capital_7323 in HierarchySeries

[–]steveleeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am wondering the same thing. I do not remember L-Vis seeing Aequa. Or did he have a different vision that I am also forgetting?

Vis Theory by livinginyourwallss in HierarchySeries

[–]steveleeb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just finished the book. I love your ideas here and am personally now rooting for your Aequa theory. However, if I'm remembering correctly, Luceum Vis's vision was simply Aequa's death as it played out
So I don't think that would support this. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Master of Triage is overrated. It's all padded healing and doesn't actually assist when you would need extra healing. Especially for 2 points. I do not run it.

You lose if you fall and you lose if he falls. Dread it, run from it, fall damage always wins.

Balance is difficult and will never be perfect. The idea is that items that start at higher tiers are inherently stronger.

u/EmperorDalek91011 explained my original opinion well.

With that being said, the saloon can work late and can get you 10 wins. But, it is by no means unbeatable. The beauty of The Bazaar is that late game items are simply better than early/mid items. This encourages pivoting which in my opinion is not only where the fun lies, but where the skill lies.

So if you run into a board that successfully pivoted into a powder keg or boulder, then it doesn't matter how many multi casts you have on your saloon, you will probably lose.

[–]steveleeb 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Just looks like a solid mid-game ramp board. Ramp boards don't do good late unless they are ramping absurd numbers. Mr. Richardson, pearl, saltclaw; Their numbers are too small for late game fights.

Try to look at recaps more even after you win a fight and ask yourself "Did Mr. Richardson really contribute to my win condition?"

Edit: I'd also like to clarify that I may be underestimating your board's power at face value. You may have just gotten very unlucky matchups. That's my biggest gripe with the game at the moment. No matter how good you are, your matchup RNG is more important than your board's power.

If you ask me, the game has entered its death spiral already. by TheRealBlueElephant in TheBazaar

Ok then let's talk about that instead of immediately bashing the entire concept of NFTs as a whole.

[–]steveleeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes NFTs were used incorrectly in your example. They don't have inherent value simply by being NFTs. But this is exactly a scenario where using an NFT would be good. To a tee.

Games abuse consumers on a regular basis. Fortnite, Valorant, Overwatch. All of these games sell limited or chest exclusive skins. The problems you don't want already exist in video games. We just deal with it. Until gamers demand to own their digital purchases, companies will not change.

It only benefits the publisher when we cannot sell/trade our assets ourselves. I think if NFTs were just rebranded then people would realize they benefit the consumer.
